Strasshof
Strasshof an der Nordbahn (meaning ''Strasshof at the Northern Railway (Austria), Northern railway''; Central Bavarian: ''Strasshof aun da Noadbauh'') is a satellite town 25 km east of Vienna, Austria. A historical locomotive built by LOFAG is displayed in the town. Geography Strasshof an der Nordbahn lies in Marchfeld in Lower Austria. About 21.08 percent of the municipality is forested. History Strasshof had about 50 inhabitants in 1900, and a railroad yard functioned from 1908 to 1959. Marchfeld
The Marchfeld () is a 900 km² sedimentary basin in Lower Austria, that borders Vienna to the east. Geologically, the Marchfeld constitutes the northern half of the Vienna Basin, which spans about 60 kilometers along the Danube. The Marchfeld traditionally served as Vienna’s vegetable supplier and Austria’s breadbasket. Economically, it has been significant since the 1930s due to its oil and natural gas deposits. Nazi Concentration Camps
From 1933 to 1945, Nazi Germany operated more than a thousand concentration camps (), including subcamp (SS), subcamps on its own territory and in parts of German-occupied Europe. The first camps were established in March 1933 immediately after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. Following the Night of Long Knives, 1934 purge of the Sturmabteilung, SA, the concentration camps were run exclusively by the Schutzstaffel, SS via the Concentration Camps Inspectorate and later the SS Main Economic and Administrative Office.
