Strandhill
Strandhill or occasionally Larass () is a coastal town and townland on the Coolera Peninsula in County Sligo, Ireland. , the population was 1,753, an increase of 10% from the 2011 census. The old name appears to be ''Ros Dragnige'' (see Killaspugbrone). History It is suggested the development of Strandhill can be attributed to a Benjamin Murrow who purchased the undeveloped land from the upper road in 1895 for £1,760. He constructed a roadway to the sea for £1,000, and offered plots either side of the roadway, which he named Buenos Ayres Drive. In 1912 he constructed a bathhouse to attract visitors. Buenos Ayres drive was conveyed into public ownership in 1928, and the strip of land to the shore in 1936. Coolera Peninsula
The Coolera Peninsula () is a peninsula in Sligo Bay, County Sligo, Ireland. It is the most populous of County Sligo's peninsulas, and the second-largest by land area. The primary population centres on Coolera are the coastal town of Strandhill on its western shore, and Magheraboy, a suburb of Sligo town. The peninsula is characterised by a vast network of Megalithic and Neolithic tombs, cairns and ringforts spread out across its landscape. The Carrowmore Megalithic Complex dates back to the 4th millennium BC, and is one of the largest megalithic complexes in Ireland. The 30,000-tonne tomb of Queen Médb, known as Miosgán Médhbh, sits atop Knocknarea mountain and is clearly visible from much of northern Sligo, making it one of the county's most recognisable landmarks. Sligo Airport
Sligo Airport is located in Strandhill, County Sligo, west of Sligo, at the end of the R277 road (Ireland), R277 road, in Ireland. The airport is a small regional airport and has had no scheduled routes since 2011. It is the home of the Sligo Aero Club (a Registered Training Facility) and the northwest base for the Irish Coastguard. Private flight training, skydiving and charity jumps are all operated from the airport. Culleenamore
Culleenamore strand is located on the south side of the half-promontory of Strandhill, at the mouth of Ballysadare Bay, County Sligo, Ireland. Culleenamore is a diverse animal habitat, and also a seal sanctuary. Horse racing at Culleenamore dates back to the early 1800s, and it is possible the tradition originated much earlier; the surrounding sand hills form a natural grandstand for spectators. Killaspugbrone
Killaspugbrone () is an early Christian church on the coast west of Sligo town and near the modern resort of Strandhill. Known as Caiseal Irrae in the earliest references. One of the earliest churches in Sligo, it was founded by Bishop Brón mac Icni (died 512) a contemporary of St. Patrick. The church is in a townland and civil parish of the same name. Coney Island or Inishmulclohy () is an island in Sligo Bay, Ireland. It lies across the mouth of Sligo Harbour, between Rosses Point Peninsula, Rosses Point and the Coolera Peninsula, and can be reached from the latter via a tidal causeway. The Irish name means "O'Mulclohy's island", in reference to a once powerful local family, while the English name means "island of rabbits".
