Alexander Stephan (August 16, 1946 – May 29, 2009) was a specialist in German literature and area studies. He was a professor, Ohio Eminent Scholar, and Senior Fellow of the Mershon Center for International Security Studies at Ohio State University (OSU). Background Stephan studied American and German literature at the Freie Universität in Berlin and at the University of Michigan. He obtained his Ph.D. from Princeton University. Career Subsequently, he taught at Princeton, the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of Florida. At Ohio State University, he held a research professorship in German literature and area studies. As professor of German literature, Stephan focused on the modern period. Trevor R. Stephan ( ; born November 25, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). Stephan played college baseball for Hill College and the University of Arkansas. The New York Yankees selected Stephan in the third round of the 2017 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2021. Amateur career Stephan attended Magnolia West High School in Magnolia, Texas. A three-year varsity starter for the baseball team, sophomore through his senior season. Tobias Stephan (born 21 January 1984) is a Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for Lausanne HC of the National League (NL). He formerly played for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League, Genève-Servette HC and EV Zug. Playing career Stephan was born in Zürich, Switzerland. As a youth, he played in the 1997 and 1998 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a team from Zürich. In 2001, he was named the best goaltender at U18 World Junior Championships. Stephan first played for EHC Chur and then for the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland. In 2002, he was named the best rookie in the Swiss Hockey League. Ruth Stephan (27 October 1925 – 8 August 1975) was a German film and stage actress. She appeared with Heinz Erhardt in the 'Willi' series of films. Biography Ruth Stephan was born to retail merchant Kurt Stephan and his wife, Kriemhilde. After graduating from school, she first worked as a certified bank teller before taking acting lessons. During her early acting career, she worked mostly on the stage in Germany, including theaters in Hamburg and Berlin. She appeared in her first movie in 1951, and subsequently became a popular figure in German comedy movies. Robert Taft Stephan (January 16, 1933 – January 2, 2023) was an American attorney who served four terms as Kansas Attorney General. Stephan was born on January 16, 1933, to Taft and Julia Stephan, of Lebanese Americans, Lebanese descent. He graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1957 and practiced law in Wichita, Kansas. After losing a campaign for local school board, he was appointed a municipal court judge and two years later elected to the Kansas District Courts, district court in Wichita. He first won election as state Attorney General in 1978 and was reelected three times in 1982, 1986, and 1990.
