Star Channel (international)
Star Channel is an international television channel brand owned by the Disney Entertainment business segment of the Walt Disney Company. Originally launched in Latin America on February 22, 2021, it expanded worldwide as a replacement for the international Fox (international), Fox channels inherited from the Fox Networks Group division of 21st Century Fox that Disney acquired on March 20, 2019. As of 2023, apart from the Fox channel rebrands, other former Fox channels in the Baltic states, CIS, Greece and Poland instead transitioned to being branded as FX (international), FX. Some worldwide Fox channels, especially those in Africa, UK & Ireland, Germany, Norway and Southeast Asia, were wound down and entirely discontinued in favor of the launch of Disney+ in their countries/regions. Star Channel (formerly known as Fox) is a Dutch free-to-cable television channel operated by Eredivisie Media & Marketing CV in which The Walt Disney Company (Benelux) BV has 51% ownership. The channel launched as ''Fox'' on 19 August 2013. A Fox-branded channel had previously been available in the Netherlands between 1998 and 2001, which has since been rebranded to Veronica. Star Movies is a Portuguese pay television movie channel owned by The Walt Disney Company Portugal. It was launched on 1 July 2011. History As Fox Movies Fox Movies started broadcasting on July 1, 2011 as the "natural successor" to Fox Next. Already from the start, the channel had an HD feed, at the time of launching, 80% of the movies in its back catalog were already HD-ready. The channel airs the most recent and successful movies in many genres including drama, comedy, science fiction, action and horror. Star Comedy (formerly FX and Fox Comedy) is a Portuguese pay television channel that broadcasts comedy series and films, owned by The Walt Disney Company Portugal. Star World, currently stylized logo-wise in capital letters and formerly known as Star Entertainment Channel and Star Plus respectively, is an Asian English language entertainment television channel originally launched on 15 December 1991 by Star TV in Hong Kong as the old iteration of Star Plus. Star Series was a Middle Eastern and North African pay television channel that was launched on 1 March 2024 replacing the Middle Eastern version of Fox. Star Films (formerly known as Fox Movies) was a Middle Eastern pay television movie channel that was launched in 2008, as joint venture between News Corporation and Rotana Media Services. Star Movies is a television network, managed by The Walt Disney Company Bulgaria, which airs across several countries in Europe. Its basic programming includes numerous productions by 20th Century Studios, Disney, Columbia Pictures, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and DreamWorks.
