St. Berchmans Higher Secondary School
St. Berchmans Higher Secondary School is an aided Catholic Residential School in Changanassery, Changanasserry of Kottayam district. Established by Charles Lavigne, Mar Charles Lavigne SJ, the then Apostolic vicariate, Vicar Apostolic of Kottayam, in 1891, is one of the oldest Catholic schools in Kerala. The school is run by Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Changanacherry, Syro Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Changanasserry. Joseph Powathil
Joseph Powathil (born 14 August 1929) is an Indian prelate of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. He is the Archbishop Emeritus of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Changanassery. Early life Powathil was born in the hamlet of Kurumbanadom, near Chanaganacherry, British India. He was known as ''Pappachan'' in his childhood, and was officially known as P. J. Joseph. He went to school at Holy Family LP School and St. Peter's UP School, and then at St. Berchmans’ High School in Changanacherry. He attended St. Berchmans' College, Changanacherry for a B.A. Economics and Loyola College, Chennai from which he received an M.A. in economics. Thomas Tharayil (born 2 February 1972) is the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Syro Malabar Archeparchy of Changanssery from 31 October 2024. Raphael Thattil
Mar Raphael Thattil is an Indian Catholic prelate of the Syro-Malabar Church. He has been a bishop since 2010 and the first bishop of the Eparchy (Diocese) of Shamshabad since 2018. The Diocese of Shamshabad is headquartered in Telangana and has jurisdiction over Syro-Malabar Catholics in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, North India, Central India, and Northeast India. As per Pope Francis's October 2017 letter, through the creation of the Shamshabad Diocese, ‘all India jurisdiction’ of the Syro-Malabar Church has been restored. Thomas Kurialacherry
Venerable Thomas of Kurialacherry (14 January 1873 – 2 June 1925) was a Catholic bishop from Kerala. Kurialacherry was a member of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, and was the first bishop of what would become the Archdiocese of Changanassery. Life Kurialacherry was born on 14 January 1873 as the sixth child of Chackochen and Accamma in Champakulam, Kerala. He was baptized on the eighth day and was christened Thomas. After his primary education, Thomas joined St.Ephrem school in Mannanam.It was during this time that he felt a strong desire to become a priest.
