Sri Lanka Cinema Family
Sri Lanka cinema family is the largest artistic family tree known in the world spanning over a sixty years in the Sinhala film industry. Many members of the family, both direct biological descendants and those married into the family, have had prolific careers as actors, film directors, producers, singers, scriptwriters, journalists and lyricists which included more than six generations at present. Beginning of the tree The first generation of this family began about a century ago in 1900s. At that time the drama traditions such as Noorthi, Sokeri and Nadagam were very popular in Sri Lanka, John William Wolboff, who lived in England visited the country. He later settled here and worked as a police officer. During his tenure, John fell in love with a young woman called Hettiarachchige Jane Nona. Thotagamage Sathish Perera ( si, සතිෂ් පෙරේරා; 29 May 1969 – 23 April 2012) was a Sri Lankan singer, composer and songwriter. He was the son of popular singer, the late Shelton Perera. Early life Sathish Perera was born on 29 May 1969, to Shelton Perera and Kumari Shashi Perera. He has two brothers, Sanjaya and Subash, and two sisters, Anuradha and Anupama. Thotagamage Shelton Perera (20 March 1939 – 18 September 1986), was a Sri Lankan musician and a singer. Started as a tabla player, Perera became one of the most influential singers in Sri Lankan classical music industry. He is also a prolific percussionist as well as a film composer. Personal life Shelton Perera was born on 20 March 1939 in Colombo as the second of the family. Hailed from an artistic background, his father was Thotagamage Wilbert Perera, who was a famous Tower Hall artist as well as A-grade singer in Radio Ceylon. Malani Bulathsinhala (12 December 1949 - 29 March 2001: si, මාලනී බුලත්සිංහල) was a Sri Lankan singer. She began her musical career at age 10 with the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Personal life Bulathsinhala was born on 12 December 1949, in Boralesgamuwa, the oldest child of Wilson and P. K. Bulathsinhala. She had two siblings, a brother, Sireshan, and sister, Sandhya.
