Squeeze (1980 Film)
''Squeeze'' is a New Zealand drama film, directed by Richard Turner and released in 1980.Kevin Thomas"A Bisexual's Self-Discovery in Squeeze" ''Los Angeles Times'', 10 April 1981. The film stars Robert Shannon as Grant, a bisexual businessman torn between his relationships with his fiancée Joy (Donna Akersten) and his boyfriend Paul (Paul Eady).George Williams"Stirring Performances Redeem 'The Squeeze'" ''Sacramento Bee'', 28 June 1983. The film, made six years before homosexuality was decriminalized in New Zealand, was refused funding by the New Zealand Film Commission, and instead its $100,000 budget was funded almost entirely by individual donors within Auckland's LGBT community.Meaghan Morris"Imaginative, colourful portrayal of gay life" ''Sydney Morning Herald'', 14 February 1981. The film premiered in July 1980 in Auckland, and had its North American premiere in October 1980 at the Chicago International Film Festival. It was subsequently screened in selected markets in 1 ... Squeeze Play (bridge)
A squeeze play (or squeeze) is a technique used in contract bridge and other trick-taking games in which the play of a card (the '' squeeze card'') forces an opponent to discard a winner or the guard of a potential winner. The situation typically occurs in the end game, with only a few cards remaining. Although numerous types of squeezes have been analyzed and catalogued in contract bridge, they were first discovered and described in whist. Most squeezes operate on the principle that declarer's and dummy's hands can, between them, hold more cards with the potential to take extra tricks than a single defender's hand can protect or ''guard''. Infrequently, due to the difficulty of coordinating their holdings, two defenders can cooperate to squeeze declarer or dummy on the same principle. Context Complexity Squeeze plays are considered by many "to be the domain of the experts but many of the positions are straightforward once the basic principles are understood." And according to Ter ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Long Squeeze
A long squeeze is a situation in which investors who hold long positions feel the need to sell into a falling market to limit their losses. This pressure to sell usually leads to a further decline in market prices caused by the supply/demand-imbalance. This situation is less common than the opposite short squeeze, because in a short squeeze, the traders who have bought the short contracts have a legal obligation to settle with the promised shares. A trader who is 'long' in a long squeeze has no such obligation, but may sell out of fear of further losses. Other investors may see the rapid decline in price as irrational and a buying opportunity (more often than a rapid rise in price seen as a shorting opportunity). However, in times of significant market turmoil, identifying a long squeeze becomes of more practical interest rather than merely an investment opportunity. In 2008, Bear Stearns was wiped out after market rumors that the company had cash concerns. Investors started selli ... Short Squeeze
In the stock market, a short squeeze is a rapid increase in the price of a stock owing primarily to an excess of short selling of a stock rather than underlying fundamentals. A short squeeze occurs when demand has increased relative to supply because short sellers have to buy stock to cover their short positions. Overview Short selling is a finance practice in which an investor, known as the short-seller, borrows shares of stock and immediately sells them, hoping to buy them back later ("covering") at a lower price. As the shares were borrowed, the short-seller must eventually return that number of shares to the lender (plus interest and dividends, if any), and therefore makes a profit if they spend less buying back the shares than they received at the earlier date when selling them. However, an unexpected piece of favorable news can cause a jump in the stock's share price, resulting in a loss rather than a profit. Short-sellers might then be triggered to buy the shares they had b ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Squeeze Theorem
In calculus, the squeeze theorem (also known as the sandwich theorem, among other names) is a theorem regarding the limit of a function that is bounded between two other functions. The squeeze theorem is used in calculus and mathematical analysis, typically to confirm the limit of a function via comparison with two other functions whose limits are known. It was first used geometrically by the mathematicians Archimedes and Eudoxus in an effort to compute , and was formulated in modern terms by Carl Friedrich Gauss. Statement The squeeze theorem is formally stated as follows. * The functions and are said to be lower and upper bounds (respectively) of . * Here, is ''not'' required to lie in the interior of . Indeed, if is an endpoint of , then the above limits are left- or right-hand limits. * A similar statement holds for infinite intervals: for example, if , then the conclusion holds, taking the limits as . This theorem is also valid for sequences. Let be two se ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Squeeze Job
Squeeze job, or squeeze cementing is a term often used in the oilfield to describe the process of injecting cement slurry into a zone, generally for pressure-isolation purposes. Background The term probably originated from the concept that enough water is "squeezed" out of the slurry to render it unflowable, so the portion that has actually entered the zone will stay in place when the squeeze pressure is released. After surface indications (e.g., pressure reaching a predetermined maximum) that a squeeze has been attained, any still-pumpable cement slurry remaining in the drill pipe or tubing ideally can be reverse circulated out before it sets. Usually the zone to be squeezed is isolated from above with a packer (and possibly from below with a bridge plug), but sometimes the squeezing pressure is applied to the entire casing string in what is known as a bradenhead squeeze, (named for an old manufacturer of casing heads). Even if a drilling rig is on location, pumping operation ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Squeeze Bottle
A squeeze bottle is a type of container such as a plastic bottle for dispensing a fluid, that is powered by compression (physical), squeezing the container by exerting pressure with the user's hand. Its fundamental characteristic is that manual pressure applied to a resilient hollow body is harnessed to compress fluid within it and thereby expel the fluid through some form of nozzle. Typically, as with wash bottles and commercial resealable containers for many viscous fluids including sauces and adhesives, it is the main body of the container that is squeezed. While atomizer nozzle, atomizers fit the basic pattern of squeeze bottles, they differ from those typical examples in that the squeezed component compresses and propels air, whose Venturi effect, interaction with a volatile liquid inside a rigid container then entrains and dispenses a mist of the liquid. The relevant United States Patent Classification is: B65D1/32 Containers adapted to be temporarily deformed by external ... Compression (physics)
In mechanics, compression is the application of balanced inward ("pushing") forces to different points on a material or Structural system, structure, that is, forces with no Net force, net sum or torque directed so as to reduce its size in one or more directions.Ferdinand Pierre Beer, Elwood Russell Johnston, John T. DeWolf (1992), "Mechanics of Materials". (Book) McGraw-Hill Professional, It is contrasted with tension (physics), tension or traction, the application of balanced outward ("pulling") forces; and with shear stress, shearing forces, directed so as to displace layers of the material parallel to each other. The compressive strength of materials and structures is an important engineering consideration. In uniaxial compression, the forces are directed along one direction only, so that they act towards decreasing the object's length along that direction. The compressive forces may also be applied in multiple directions; for example inwards along the edges of a plate or ...
