''SpongeBob Comics'' is a comic book series based on the animated television series ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. It was published by United Plankton Pictures and distributed by Bongo Comics. It was initially published every two months in the United States beginning in February 2011 and was published monthly from June 2012 to October 2018. History Originally, Stephen Hillenburg authored an educational comic book in 1989, called ''The Intertidal Zone'', while he worked as a teacher of marine science at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, California. This comic book depicted ocean life through anthropomorphic sea creatures, as the character of Bob the Sponge, a natural sponge with sunglasses who would become the first prototype of SpongeBob SquarePants. Sherm Cohen
Paul Sherman "Sherm" Cohen (born January 19, 1965) is an American storyboard artist, director, and writer. During college, Cohen worked as a cartoonist for his local newspaper. He got his start in animation at Nickelodeon on ''The Ren and Stimpy Show'' as character layout artist, followed by a three-year stint on ''Hey Arnold!'' as storyboard artist and director. Career Cohen was a writer, artist, and letterer for ''Nickelodeon Magazine'' from 1996 until the magazine ceased operations in 2009. He contributed dozens of comic strips and cover art featuring Nicktoons characters. In early 1998, Cohen was invited by Stephen Hillenburg to be part of the original ''SpongeBob SquarePants'' crew. Ramona Dom Fradon (; October 2, 1926 – February 24, 2024) was an American comics artist known for her work illustrating Aquaman and ''Brenda Starr, Reporter'', and co-creating the superhero Metamorpho. Her career began in 1950 and lasted until her retirement in January 2024. Early life Ramona Dom was born on October 2, 1926, in Chicago to Irma H. (née Haefeli) and Peter Dom, whose family name was shortened from Dombrezian. Her father was Armenian and her mother was Swiss. When she was five, the family moved to New York and she grew up on the outskirts of New York City in Westchester County. Her father was a well known commercial lettering man and designed logos for Elizabeth Arden, Camel, and Lord & Taylor as well as the typeface Dom Casual. He was notable for his work in the satire, satirical magazine ''Mad (magazine), Mad'', including his trademark feature, the Mad Fold-in, ''Mad'' Fold-in.
