Spinomantis Phantasticus01
''Spinomantis'' is a frog genus in the mantellid subfamily Mantellinae. This genus is restricted to Madagascar. At present it contains 13 species. They are arboreal or terrestrial frogs and occur in or along small streams. Most species are nocturnal. Taxonomy The genus ''Spinomantis'' was erected as a subgenus of ''Mantidactylus'' by Dubois in 1992. It was elevated to genus-level in 2006. Description ''Spinomantis'' are small to medium-sized frogs, with adults measuring in snout–vent length. The toes have rudimentary to moderate webbing. The finger tips are distinctly enlarged. Males have subgular vocal sac The vocal sac is the flexible Biological membrane, membrane of skin possessed by most male frogs and toads. The purpose of the vocal sac is usually as an amplification of their mating or advertisement call. The presence or development of the voca ...s. Spinomantis Aglavei
''Spinomantis aglavei'' is a species of frog in the mantellid subfamily Mantellinae, endemic to Madagascar. Taxonomy This species was originally described in the genus ''Rhacophorus''. It was transferred to the genus ''Boophis'' by Guibé in 1947, and subsequently to the genus ''Mantidactylus'' by Blommers-Schlösser in 1979. Dubois made this species the type species of the subgenus ''Spinomantis'', which was elevated to genus-level in 2006. Oskar Boettger described ''Rhacophorus sikorae'' in 1913, but this name was considered a junior synonym of ''Spinomantis aglavei'' by Barbour and Loveridge in 1946 and all subsequent works. Habitat and ecology This species occurs in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, rivers, and swamps. It is threatened by habitat loss Habitat destruction (also termed habitat loss or habitat reduction) occurs when a natural habitat is no longer able to support its native species. The organisms ...

Spinomantis Brunae
''Spinomantis brunae'' (common name: Bruna's stream frog) is a species of frogs in the family Mantellidae. It is endemic to Madagascar and known from the Anosy Mountains in southeastern Madagascar. Description Males measure in snout–vent length. Females are unknown. The dorsum is olive green with a reticulated pattern of dark brown spots. The flanks have white spots. The digit and toe pads bear a pair of white spots. The iris is creamy white. The tympanum is distinct. The body is granular dorsally, with weakly granular flanks and belly. The fingers and toes bear enlarged, triangular disks. Males have a subgular vocal sac. Habitat and conservation ''Scpinomantis brunae'' occur in pristine forests at elevations of above sea level. It lives in crevices among boulders and rocky areas, usually close to flowing water. Its breeding habitat is unknown but could be flowing water; one male was observed to call on a branch half a metre above the ground by a small stream. This spec ...

Spinomantis Tavaratra
''Spinomantis tavaratra'' is a species of frogs in the mantellid subfamily Mantellinae. It is endemic to the humid forests of northwestern Madagascar. Taxonomy This species was described in the genus ''Spinomantis'' by Cramer, Rabibisoa, and Raxworthy in 2008. The species is named ''tavaratra'' is a Malagasy word for "the north", referencing the provenance of this species in northern Madagascar. Description Adult males measure in snout–vent length (SVL); females measure . The species is also characterised by simple dermal spines of less than length on the posterior margin of the tarsus. Habitat and ecology Its natural habitats are primary forest near streams at elevations of above sea level, in Marojejy National Park but also on the Sorata massif. It is an arboreal Arboreal locomotion is the locomotion of animals in trees. In habitats in which trees are present, animals have evolved to move in them. Some animals may scale trees only occasionally (scansorial), but ...

Spinomantis Phantasticus
''Spinomantis phantasticus'' is a species of frog in the family Mantellidae. It is endemic to east-central and northeastern Madagascar. Description ''Spinomantis phantasticus'' males measure in snout–vent length. It is a very conspicuous species, presenting a distinct green-brown dorsal patterning and large spines all over the body. The ventral side as well as the femoral glands are greenish. The male advertisement call is a sequence of 4 or 5 "metallic" double-click notes. Habitat and conservation ''Scpinomantis brunae'' occur along brooks in pristine forests at elevations of above sea level. It probably breeds in streams, as other species in the genus. Males call from about 2–4 m above the ground in the vegetation along streams. This species is locally abundant. However, subsistence agriculture, timber extraction, charcoal manufacture, spread of invasive eucalyptus, livestock grazing, and expanding human settlements are threats to its habitat. It occurs in the Masoala ...

Spinomantis Peraccae
''Spinomantis peraccae'' is a species of frog in the mantellid subfamily Mantellinae. It is endemic to Madagascar and widely distributed in the northern, eastern, and central parts of the island. The specific epithet honours Italian herpetologist Mario Giacinto Peracca. Common name Peracca's Madagascar frog has been coined for it. Taxonomy George Albert Boulenger described this species in 1896 within the genus ''Rhacophorus''. Rose M. A. Blommers-Schlösser transferred it to ''Mantidactylus'' in 1978. placed it in the then-subgenus ''Blommersia'' in 1992, but it was moved to the then-subgenus ''Spinomantis'' by Glaw and Vences in 1994. Description Adult males measure and adult females in snout–vent length. The snout is rounded. The tympanum is distinct and supra-tympanic fold is prominent. The fingers have expanded discs but no webbing; the toes are webbed but the discs are smaller than those on the fingers. The dorsum is brownish-greenish and has darker blotches. Dors ...

Spinomantis Massi
''Spinomantis massi'' is a species of frog in the mantellid subfamily Mantellinae. It is endemic to the humid forests of northwestern Madagascar. Taxonomy This species was described in the genus ''Mantidactylus'', subgenus ''Spinomantis'', by Frank Glaw and Miguel Vences in 1994. The species is named ''massi'' to congratulate the daughter of Frank Glaw, Andrea Mass née Glaw, and her husband Robert Mass, on their marriage. Therefore, plural form ''massorum'' should have been used, but this is considered an unjustified emendation. The correct specific name is therefore ''massi''. Description Adult males measure in snout–vent length (SVL); the only known adult female measured . The head is wider than long. The tympanum is distinct. The fingers and toes bear enlarged, triangular disks. Males have a subgular vocal sac. Habitat and ecology Its natural habitats are primary forest near streams at elevations of above sea level. It is an arboreal species that breeds in streams. It ...
