Spilomelinae
Spilomelinae is a very species-rich subfamily of the lepidopteran family Crambidae, the crambid snout moths. With 4,135 described species in 344 genera worldwide, it is the most speciose group among pyraloids. Description Imagines – the adult life stage – vary considerably in size: the forewing span ranges from 11.5 mm e.g. in ''Metasia'' to 50 mm in the robust-bodied '' Eporidia''. In resting position, the moths exhibit a characteristic triangular shape, with the wings usually folded over the abdomen, the forewings covering the hindwings. Some Spilomelinae diverge from this common resting pattern, like ''Maruca'' with widely spread wings, and ''Atomopteryx'' and ''Lineodes'' with narrow wings folded along the body. All Spilomelinae moths have well developed compound eyes, antennae and mouthparts, although in the genera ''Niphopyralis'' and ''Siga'' the proboscis is lost. Synapomorphic characters of the subfamily comprise minute or obsolete maxillary palpi, ve ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Geshna
''Geshna'' is a monotypic moth genus of the family Crambidae described by Harrison Gray Dyar Jr. in 1906. It contains only one species, ''Geshna cannalis'', the lesser canna leafroller, described by Altus Lacy Quaintance in 1898. It is found in North America, where it has been recorded from Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. It has also been recorded from Costa Rica and Cuba. The wingspan is 20–25 mm. Adults are light brown with two brownish-black lines across the forewings and hindwings, as well as a small angular white patch near the distal portion of the discal cell on the forewings. Adults are on wing from February to May, from July to August and from November to December. The larvae feed on ''Canna'' species. Young larvae mine the leaves of their host plant, creating a mine between the upper and lower epidermis. The mine is filled with frass. Young larvae reach a length of about 1.4 mm. They have a yellowish, somewhat transparent ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Marasmianympha
''Marasmianympha'' is a genus of moths of the grass moth family (biology), family (Crambidae) described by Eugene G. Munroe in 1991. Its single species, ''Marasmianympha eupselias'', was described by Edward Meyrick in 1929. Among the grass moths, it belongs to subfamily Spilomelinae. It is endemism, endemic to the Marquesas Islands of Polynesia, where it has been recorded on Fatu Hiva, Hiva Oa and Tahuata, but is suspected to occur on other islands as well. The holotype specimen is in the Natural History Museum, London. When first described, this moth was assigned to the genus ''Aulacodes'' in subfamily Acentropinae (then known as Nymphulinae). But eventually it was determined that despite a superficial similarity, ''M. eupselias'' is not a member of the Acentropinae, and hence by grass moth standards not at all closely related to ''Aulacodes''. Description and ecology ''M. eupselias'' is a smallish moth with fairly short antenna (biology), antennae. It resembles ''Aulacodes'' in ...
