''Species Deceases'' is an extended play by Australian rock band Midnight Oil, released on 26 November 1985 under the CBS record label. ''Species Deceases'' debuted at No. 1 on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart for six weeks from December 1985 to January 1986. Note: Used for Australian Singles and Albums charting from 1974 until Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) created their own ARIA Charts, charts in mid-1988. In 1992, Kent back calculated chart positions for 1970–1974. It was the first Australian single and/or EP to reach the number-one spot on its chart appearance and remains Midnight Oil's only No. 1 on the national singles chart. Midnight Oil
Midnight Oil (known informally as "The Oils") are an Australian rock band composed of Peter Garrett (vocals, harmonica), Rob Hirst (drums), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboard) and Martin Rotsey (guitar). The group was formed in Sydney in 1972 by Hirst, Moginie and original bassist Andrew James as Farm: they enlisted Garrett the following year, changed their name in 1976, and hired Rotsey a year later. Peter Gifford served as bass player from 1980 to 1987, with Bones Hillman then assuming the role until his death in 2020. Midnight Oil have sold over 20 million albums worldwide as of 2021. Midnight Oil issued their Midnight Oil (Midnight Oil album), self-titled debut album in 1978 and gained a cult following in their homeland despite a lack of mainstream media acceptance. Peter Gifford
Peter Gifford (born 6 April 1955), sometimes known as "Giffo," is an Australian musician. From 1980 until 1987, he played bass guitar, Chapman Stick and sang backing vocals for Australian rock band Midnight Oil. Midnight Oil Gifford is credited with creating a significant part of the Oils' tight, driving sound, and has been described as being an aggressive bass guitarist. He played on the albums '' Place without a Postcard'' (1981), '' 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1'' (1982), '' Red Sails in the Sunset'' (1984) and ''Diesel and Dust'' (1987), as well the EPs '' Bird Noises'' (1980) and ''Species Deceases'' (1985). Midnight is the transition time from one day to the next – the moment when the date changes, on the local official clock time for any particular jurisdiction. WANK (computer Worm)
The WANK Worm and the OILZ Worm were computer worms that attacked DEC VMS computers in 1989 over the DECnet. They were written in DIGITAL Command Language. Origin The worm is believed to have been created by Melbourne-based hackers, the first to be created by an Australian or Australians. Ian McFarlane (born 1959) is an Australian music journalist, music historian and author, whose best known publication is the ''Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' (1999), which was updated for a second edition in 2017. As a journalist he started in 1984 with '' Juke'', a rock music newspaper. During the early 1990s he worked for Roadrunner Records while he published a music guide, ''The Australian New Music Record Guide Volume 1: 1976–1980'' (1992). He followed with two fanzines, ''Freedom Train'' and ''Prehistoric Sounds'', both issued during 1994 to 1996.
