Interstate 280 (I-280) is a major north–south auxiliary Interstate Highway in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It runs from Interstate 680 (California), I-680 and U.S. Route 101 in California, US Route 101 (US 101) in San Jose, California, San Jose to King and 5th streets in San Francisco, running just to the west of the larger cities of San Francisco Peninsula for most of its route. From Interstate 880 (California), I-880 in San Jose to California State Route 1, State Route 1 (SR 1) in Daly City, California, Daly City, I-280 was built and dedicated as the Junipero Serra Freeway, after the Junípero Serra, Spanish Franciscan friar who founded the first nine of 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco. Interstate 280 (I-280) is a Interstate Highway in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It provides a spur from I-80 in Parsippany–Troy Hills, Morris County, east to Newark and I-95 (New Jersey Turnpike) in Kearny, Hudson County. In Kearny, access is provided toward the Holland Tunnel and Lincoln Tunnel to New York City. The western part of the route runs through suburban areas of Morris and Essex counties, crossing the Watchung Mountains.
