Southeast Kansas League
The Southeast Kansas League is a high school athletic conference represented by seven schools in the southeast region of Kansas. The league offers championships for girls in basketball, cross country, golf, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. In boys sports, the SEK offers championships in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. The league is referred to as "The SEK" or "SEK" when shortened. "SEKL" is never used. There have been three different leagues known as the Southeast Kansas League. The original was a loose association and existed from 1908 to 1923. This league did not contest a football championship. The second version of the SEK existed from 1923 to 1927. Another league, known as the Big Seven League, existed for two years, 1926 and 1927. Some SEK schools competed in the Big Seven at the same time. Southeast Kansas
Southeast Kansas is a region of the U.S. state of Kansas. It can be roughly defined by Woodson County in the northwest, Bourbon County in the northeast, Cherokee County in the southeast, and Montgomery County in the southwest. Geographically it is dominated by a broad rolling landscape located between the Flint Hills to the west and includes the Ozarks to the southeast. Some notable towns there include Pittsburg, Parsons, Coffeyville, Independence, Chanute, Fort Scott, and Iola. Columbus, Kansas
Columbus is the second largest city and county seat of Cherokee County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,929. It is located approximately 15 miles south-southwest of Pittsburg. History The first settlement was made at Columbus in 1868. The first post office in Columbus was established in 1869. Bulldog
The Bulldog is a British breed of dog of mastiff type. It may also be known as the English Bulldog or British Bulldog. It is a stocky, muscular dog of medium size, with a large head, thick folds of skin around the face and shoulders and a relatively flat face with a protruding lower jaw. Selective breeding for appearance has led to increased susceptibility to health problems including brachycephaly, hip dysplasia, heat sensitivity and skin infections. The dogs may not be bred in Norway or the Netherlands, because of concerns about their quality of life. Tiger
The tiger (''Panthera tigris'') is a large Felidae, cat and a member of the genus ''Panthera'' native to Asia. Comet
A comet is an icy, small Solar System body that warms and begins to release gases when passing close to the Sun, a process called outgassing. This produces an extended, gravitationally unbound atmosphere or Coma (cometary), coma surrounding the nucleus, and sometimes a Comet tail, tail of gas and dust gas blown out from the coma. Chanute High School is a Secondary education in the United States, public secondary school in Chanute, Kansas, United States, and operated by Chanute USD 413 school district. Campus The school's current building was completed in 2008. Curriculum Chanute High School offers a variety of courses, including concurrent classes through Neosho County Community College. With the construction of the new high school in 2008, a new trade building was completed. Welding and construction classes are offered as well as Advanced Placement classes. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. Out of necessity, the member schools adopted eligibility and participation rules and established authority for a Board of Control to assess penalties against schools for violations. Labette County, Kansas
Labette County is a county located in Southeast Kansas. Its county seat is Oswego, and its most populous city is Parsons. As of the 2020 census, the county population was 20,184. The county was named after LaBette Creek, the second-largest creek in the county, which runs roughly north-northwest-south-southeast from near Parsons to Chetopa. The creek in turn was named after French-Canadian fur trapper Pierre LaBette, who had moved to the area, living along the Neosho River, and marrying into the Osage tribe in the 1830s and 1840s.
