Southeast Blades
The Steinbach Pistons are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, which is a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. History Southeast Thunderbirds/T-Birds/Blades The MJHL granted an expansion team to the Southeast Tribal Council, a group of First Nation bands in southeastern Manitoba, to begin play in the 1988–89 season. The team was known as the Southeast Thunderbirds and played out of the Notre Dame Arena in Winnipeg. The team was renamed the Southeast Blades in 1992. After taking a leave of absence for the 1996–97 season, the Blades moved northeast of Winnipeg to Sagkeeng First Nation. The Blades played ten seasons in Sagkeeng, the most successful being the 2002–03 season when they advanced to the Turnbull Cup finals which they lost to the OCN Blizzard. Steinbach () is the List of cities in Manitoba, third-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada, and with a population of 17,806, the largest community in the Eastman Region, Manitoba, Eastman region. The city, located about southeast of the provincial capital of Winnipeg, is bordered by the Rural Municipality of Hanover to the north, west, and south, and the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie to the east. Steinbach was first settled by Plautdietsch language, Plautdietsch-speaking Mennonites from Ukraine in 1874, whose descendants continue to have a significant presence in the city today. Steinbach is found on the eastern edge of the Canadian Prairies, while Sandilands Provincial Forest is a short distance east of the city. 2013–14 MJHL Season
The 2013–14 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 97th season of operation. The Selkirk Steelers posted the best record in the regular season with 49 win and 102 points. The Steelers, however, could not advance past the first round, as they were defeated by the Winnipeg Blues, the eventual Turnbull Cup champions. This was the Blues' 17th MJHL championship in franchise history. The Winnipeg Blues and Dauphin Kings both participated in the 2014 Western Canada Cup in Dauphin. The Kings advanced as far as the 2014 Royal Bank Cup semi-finals before being eliminated. The 2012–13 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 96th season of operation. Season highlights *The Winnipeg Saints are sold to a group from Virden in April 2012 and relocate to the southwestern Manitoba community. The team is renamed the Virden Oil Capitals and moves to the Sherwood Division. 2011–12 MJHL Season
The 2011–12 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 95th season of operation. Season highlights *The Winnipeg Saints relocate to the St. James Civic Centre in Winnipeg. This is the final season for the Saints, who permanently relocate to Virden after season's end. *The Portage Terriers switch to the Addison division. *The Terriers defeat the Saints in the final to win their second consecutive Turnbull Cup. The 2010–11 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 94th season of operation. The Portage Terriers posted the best record in the regular season and won their seventh Turnbull Cup. The 2018 Royal Bank Cup was the 48th Canadian junior A Ice Hockey National Championship for the Canadian Junior Hockey League and the 48th consecutive year a national championship was awarded to this skill level since the breakaway of Major Junior hockey in 1970. ANAVET Cup
The ANAVET Cup was an ice hockey trophy awarded by the Canadian Junior Hockey League to the winners of a best-of-seven series between the championship teams of the SJHL and the MJHL. The winner also earned a berth in the Centennial Cup national championship tournament. The series was an annual staple since 1971, excluding the years from 2013 to 2017, when it was replaced by the Western Canada Cup, and 2020–2021, when the competition was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The term "ANAVET" comes from the Canadian non-for-profit organization ANAVETS, or Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada. Nipawin Hawks
The Nipawin Hawks are a Canadian junior "A" team based in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. They are members of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). They play their home games at the Centennial Arena, which has a seating capacity of 1,500. The team colors are black and yellow. The Hawks have won two SJHL championships (1990 and 2018).
