South Kedah Expressway (Lekas), or Sungai Petani–Kedah Inner Expressway (SPIKE) , is a new expressway under planning in Kedah, Malaysia. "Lekas" stands for "Lebuhraya Kedah Selatan". The South Kedah Expressway is much similar to the North–South Expressway Central Link E6 (Shah Alam–Nilai North) in the Klang Valley. It will act as a bypass from the state of Penang. Sungai Petani
Sungai Petani ( abbr. Sg. Petani or SP) is a city in Kuala Muda District, Kedah, Malaysia. The population of the municipal area of Sungai Petani is larger than Kedah's state capital, Alor Setar. It is located about 55 km south of Alor Setar, and 33 km northeast of George Town, the capital city of the neighbouring state of Penang. Etymology The name of the municipality is taken from the name of a river, which is ''Sungai Petani'' (Petani River), a tributary of Merbok River. The word ''Petani'' might be related to the province of Pattani in Thailand. Padang Serai (literal meaning: lemongrass field) is a little town in Kulim District, Kedah, Malaysia. The sleepy hollow, surrounded by oil palm plantations and the nearby Kulim High-tech Industrial Zone has 56 percent Malay, 23 percent Indians and 12 percent Chinese voters. Kulim
The Kulim District is a district and town in the state of Kedah, Malaysia. It is located on the southeast of Kedah, bordering Penang. The town of Kulim, a mere east of Penang's capital city, George Town, also forms part of the George Town Conurbation, Malaysia's second largest metropolitan area. The North–South Expressway Central Link also known as ELITE, is a controlled-access highway in Malaysia, running between Shah Alam in Selangor and Nilai in Negeri Sembilan. The expressway joins the separated North–South Expressway northern route, northern and North–South Expressway southern route, southern sections of the North–South Expressway (Malaysia), North–South Expressway, allowing interstate traffic to bypass Kuala Lumpur.
