Soulis Markopoulos
Anastasios "Soulis" Markopoulos (; born March 1, 1949) is a Greek former professional basketball player and a professional basketball coach. He last coached Aris Thessaloniki of the Greek Basket League. He holds the all-time record for the most total games as a head coach, in the history of the Greek Championship. He was inducted into the Greek Basket League Hall of Fame in 2023. Playing career Markopoulos played club basketball with the Greek club Olympos Saranta Ekklision, from 1967 to 1972. He then played with the Greek club Dimokritos Thessaloniki, from 1972 to 1978. While he was with Dimokritos, he played multiple seasons in the top-tier level Greek Basket League. Coaching career Markopoulos has coached, in his career, teams such as: Iraklis Thessaloniki, PAOK Thessaloniki, Aris Thessaloniki, Makedonikos, AEK Athens, and Maroussi Athens. Charis Markopoulos
Charalampis "Charis" Markopoulos (alternate spellings: Charalabis, Haralampis, Haralabis, Haris) (; born January 20, 1982) is a Greek former professional basketball player and coach. Early life and youth career Markopoulos began playing the sport of basketball with the youth system of Iraklis Thessaloniki, in Greece. He was considered to be one of the most talented youth players of his generation in Europe, and was considered by some basketball analysts to possibly be the next Nikos Galis. With Iraklis' Under-18 junior club, along with his teammate Lazaros Papadopoulos, Markopoulos won the Greek Under-18 Championship, during the 1997–98 season. Markopoulos also won the bronze medal with Greece, at the 2000 FIBA Under-18 EuroBasket. Greek Basketball League System
The Greek basketball league system is a number of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Greece. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are nine different competition levels in the system. The highest level competitions are the professional and semi professional nationwide competitions, which include the top-tier level Greek Basketball League (GBL), the second-tier level Greek A2 Basketball League, the third-tier level Greek B Basketball League, and the fourth-tier level Greek C Basketball League. Those competitions are then followed by the regional amateur level competitions, which include: the A1, the A2, the B, the C, and/or the C1, and the C2 categories.
