Sotelúm
Sotelúm (Shlúm «Lúm» Sotelo ; born December 1, 1989, in Tijuana) is a Mod (subculture), modernist and independent music artist, listed by UABC Radio and other local press media as an elemental post-Nortec Collective, nortec visionary in the Mexican ''avant garde'' of electronic music. Career From his early experiences as trumpet player, Sotelúm always expressed his affinity for Folktales of Mexico, Mexican folklore and Hebrew music, especially sephardic music, sephardic brass and klezmer styles. His music career began professionally in 2006 when he joined a mariachi street band on the world-famous ''Santa Cecilia'' square, where he practiced the Mexican music tradition, unnoticed until 2008. From 2008 Sotelúm performed live in many projects including Nortec Panoptica Orchestra, Pato Banton & The Ghostownians and ''S''otelúm & The Minarete Brass Orchestra (his own production). Minarete Brass
''Minarete Brass'' was the first LP album, LP release by the Mexican producer and recording artist Sotelúm. Considered by some Nortec Collective members as one of the most purposeful pieces of art in Tijuana. This album is the result of Sotelúm's concerns to amalgamate modern jazz with mariachi and mexican folk, mexican folk music from the ''La Huasteca, huasteca'' and ''tapatia'' regions of Mexico. The music from this album is performed by ''Sotelúm & The Minarete Brass Orchestra'', a live sub-project band specially grouped for live shows that has been described as "regional pride" by the IMAC and ICBC public institutions of culture. Sonidero Travesura
Sonidero Travesura is a Latin-synth duo from Tijuana, Mexico. The name roughly translates to "playful" or "mischievous sound system" and uses ''cumbia sonidera'' culture as an inspirational starting point. Mariachi
Mariachi (, , ) is a genre of regional Mexican music dating back to at least the 18th century, evolving over time in the countryside of various regions of western Mexico. The usual mariachi group today consists of as many as eight violins, two trumpets and at least one guitar, including a high-pitched Mexican Vihuela and an acoustic bass guitar called a guitarrón, and all players take turns singing lead and doing backup vocals. During the 19th- and 20th-century migrations from rural areas into Guadalajara, along with the Mexican government's promotion of national culture, mariachi came to be recognized as a distinctly Mexican ''son''. Son Huasteco
Son huasteco is one of eight Mexican song styles and is a traditional Mexican musical style originating in the six state area of Northeastern Mexico called La Huasteca. It dates back to the end of the 19th century and is influenced by Spanish and indigenous cultures. Usually it is played by a ''conjunto huasteco, Trio Huasteco'' composed of a guitarra quinta huapanguera (a five course, eight stringed guitar-like instrument) a Jarana huasteca (a stringed instrument related to the Jarana huasteca, jarana) and a violin. Singers will often use the falsetto register. The son huasteco is particularly noteworthy for its flamboyant and virtuoso violin parts, although the style varies from state to state. Inspector (band)
The band Inspector (from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon) fuses classic Jamaican rhythms with the feel of Mexican pop. Their style is a blend of ska, reggae, nostalgia for the 1960s rock-n-roll and the great romantic groups of the 1970s, in addition to a romantic style of their own. They are part of the musical movement called the Avanzada Regia. History Inspector was born in November 1995 with a group of kids who were looking for fun, to create good music and enjoy themselves.
