Sopoaga Ministry
The Sopoaga Ministry was the 14th Ministry (collective executive), ministry of the Government of Tuvalu, led by Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga. It succeeds the Telavi Ministry upon its swearing in by Governor-General of Tuvalu, Governor-General Sir Iakoba Italeli on 5 August 2013. Following the 2015 Tuvaluan general election, 2015 general election, Enele Sopoaga was sworn in as prime minister on 10 April. Enele Sopoaga said his administration will focus on working to make Tuvalu less Climate change vulnerability, vulnerable to climate change and global economic forces. The Sopoaga Ministry ended following the 2019 Tuvaluan general election, on 19 September 2019, when the members of parliament elected Kausea Natano from Funafuti as prime minister. Enele Sosene Sopoaga Privy Council of the United Kingdom, PC (born 10 February 1956) is a Tuvaluan diplomat and politician who was Prime Minister of Tuvalu from 2013 to 2019. Sopoaga was elected to Parliament of Tuvalu, Parliament in the 2010 Tuvaluan general election, 2010 general election. Kausea Natano
Kausea Natano (born 5 July 1957) is a politician who served as the Prime Minister of Tuvalu from 19 September 2019 to 26 February 2024. He represented Funafuti as a Member of Parliament. He was first elected in the 2002 Tuvaluan general election and served as an MP until he was unseated in the 2024 Tuvaluan general election. In his political career, Natano has also assumed significant roles, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, during his tenure in the Cabinet led by former Prime Minister Willy Telavi. Puakena Boreham
Puakena Boreham (born 18 December 1970) is an anaesthetist who became a Tuvaluan politician, when she was elected to represent Nui in the 2015 Tuvaluan general election. She was not re-elected in the 2024 Tuvaluan general election. Medical career Dr Boreham studied at the Fiji School of Medicine and graduated in 1998. She has worked for the Tuvaluan Ministry of Health at the Princess Margaret Hospital as an anaesthetist and as the Medical Superintendent. In 2014 she carried out post-graduate study at the Australian National University in global health diplomacy, global health and foreign policy. Pita Elisala
Elisala Pita (d. 22 August 2016) was a Tuvaluan politician. Pita "had a long and distinguished career with the Fisheries Department" in Tuvalu, "culminating in his being employed as a Fisheries Adviser with the USAID". For the latter position, he was based in Suva, Fiji. He eventually returned to his home country, and worked in public service, becoming Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and the Environment. In the 2001 Birthday Honours, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) "for public and community service". He first entered parliament as an MP for Nukufetau in a by-election in October 2003. At the time, Prime Minister Saufatu Sopoanga was struggling to retain a majority in parliament. Taukelina Finikaso
Taukelina Finikaso (born 10 January 1959) is a political figure from the Pacific nation of Tuvalu. At the 2006 Tuvaluan general election, 2006 general election, he was elected MP for his home constituency of Vaitupu. He was educated in Kiribati and Fiji before acquiring a Law Degree at the University of Tasmania and a master's degree in International Law from Sydney University. Finikaso was admitted on 16 October 1987 to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Prior to entering into politics, Finikaso worked as a lawyer and then as a Permanent Secretary under the different ministries of the Government. Monise Laafai is a Tuvaluan politician and businessman. He stood for Parliament for the first time at the 2010 general election, and was elected MP for the constituency of Nanumaga. He supported Maatia Toafa's successful bid for the premiership, and was subsequently appointed to Cabinet, as Minister of Finance. He lost office just three months later, when Toafa's government was brought down by a motion of no confidence.
