SoCal Regionals 2017
SoCal Regionals 2017 (sometimes shortened as SCR 2017) was a fighting game event that took place in Santa Ana, California on September 22–24. Held by Alex Valle, Level, Up, the event featured eleven tournaments, among which the debut competition of ''Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite'', one of the ''Street Fighter V'' Premier Events of the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour, and a ''Tekken 7'' tournament that was part of the 2017 Tekken World Tour Master. The''Marvel vs. Capcom'' tournament at SCR 2017 was won by FilipinoChamp, Ryan "FilipinoChamp" Ramirez, while its ''Street Fighter V'' tournament was won by Yukadon, Atsushi "Yukadon" Fujimura. Background SoCal Regionals 2017 was held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California from September 22 to 24. Under Night In-Birth
is a 2D fighting game co-developed by Ecole Software and French-Bread. It received many updates for adjustments and characters. Gameplay The game has similar mechanics to '' Melty Blood'', '' Guilty Gear'' and '' BlazBlue''. It uses three attack buttons and a fourth one tied to the "GRD" meter. Attacks can cancel each other in any order, and into special and super moves. GRD is a tug-of-war mechanic to reward players for defense or offense, for them to use Shield, an enhanced defensive technique; Assault, an air dashing move; and Force Functions, a character-specific action serving as offense or a temporary buff. Whichever character has more GRD at the end of a cycle gains a temporary "Vorpal" buff, improving their moves and damage, and using Chain Shift, which cancels any move, resets the character to a neutral state and receives extra meter for the GRD. Christopher Gonzalez, also known as NYChrisG, is an American competitive gamer, specializing in fighting games. He is considered one of the top ''Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3'' players. He is also the EVO 2016 champion for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Career 2011 Gonzalez was first sponsored by the Local Battles Gaming Center in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Gonzalez first came to prominence at CEO 2011 and got 3rd place in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, losing only to Justin Wong and Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi. Gonzalez would later attend EVO 2011 and defeat Noah Solis using a team of Amaterasu, Ryu, and Albert Wesker. Evolution Championship Series
The Evolution Championship Series, commonly known as Evo, is an annual esports event that focuses exclusively on fighting games. The tournaments are completely open and use the double elimination format. As with Super Battle Opera, contestants travel from all over the world to participate, most notably from Japan. The first Evolution was originally held as a ''Super Street Fighter II Turbo'' and ''Street Fighter Alpha 2'' tournament called the Battle by the Bay. It changed its name to Evo in 2002.
