Slapshock
Slapshock was a Filipino heavy metal band from Metro Manila. They were formed in 1997, originally as a nu metal act, with their early musical style compared to that of Korn. They later shifted towards a metalcore style. Background The group was formed on February 14, 1997, by several students at UP Diliman, with original vocalist Reynold Munsayac; he was soon replaced with guitarist Jerry Basco's cousin Jamir Garcia.Slapshockat Allmusic Heavily influenced by American East Coast rap, they played in clubs in Manila in the 1990s. Jamir Garcia
Vladimir "Jamir" Salenga Garcia (5 September 1978 – 26 November 2020) was a Filipino musician best known as the main vocalist of the nu metal band, Slapshock. Career Slapshock This band was formed during the University of the Philippines Fair on February 14, 1997, which marked their first-ever gig. By early 1998, original singer Reynold Munsayac left, and Garcia was soon afterwards brought in to replace him. The band's name came from funky guitar plucking and chord slapping techniques that characterized much of the nu-metal sound. Rap-funk-punk-metal fusion band Red Hot Chili Peppers were a major influence. ''Live and Acoustic'' is a live album and the ninth overall album of the Filipino rock band, Rivermaya featuring Slapshock. This is a 2-disc album and has 22 tracks (13 audio tracks from Disc 1 and 9 music videos from Disc 2). The album has been released under Viva Records on January 28, 2003. This is the band's first live album filmed and recorded on May 18, 2002 from the "Double Trouble: Akoustik Rampage" concert at the Music Museum, Greenhills, San Juan. Greyhoundz is a Filipino nu metal/rap metal band formed in the late 1990s which gained international recognition and is currently based in Manila, Philippines. Background Greyhoundz was formed in 1997 by cousins Niño and Audie Avenido who at first just wanted to join a local battle of the bands contest together with other bandmates that included Allen Cudal. The contest was canceled so they opted to audition at the now defunct Club DREDD that was based in Manila. They later recruited Reg Rubio, who was from another band that also played at Club Dredd and TJ Brillantes came on board shortly after. The Dubai Desert Rock Festival was an event celebrating various styles of rock and metal music on one stage in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Originally a one-day festival, it was expanded to two days in 2007 and 2008, before its eventual cancellation after the 2009 event. Velvet Revolver was an American hard rock supergroup consisting of Guns N' Roses members Slash (lead guitar), Duff McKagan (bass, backing vocals) and Matt Sorum (drums, backing vocals), alongside Dave Kushner (rhythm guitar) formerly of punk band Wasted Youth, and Scott Weiland (lead vocalist) formerly of Stone Temple Pilots. Project E was a joint project between the United States and the United Kingdom during the Cold War to provide nuclear weapons to the Royal Air Force (RAF) until sufficient British nuclear weapons became available.
