Skodsborg Spa Hotel ( Danish: ''Kurhotel Skodsborg'', formerly ''Skodsborg Kurbad'') is a hotel and health resort in Skodsborg, on the Strandvejen coastal road, 15 km north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was named the Best Luxury Wellness Spa in Europe by the international World Luxury Hotel Awards in 2016. History Skodsborg Sanatorium was founded by the physician Carl Ottosen (July 26, 1864 in Elling Parish near Frederikshavn – May 12, 1942 in Skodsborg) and the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1898. Ottesen's inspiration came from John Harvey Kellogg for whom he had worked at the Health Reform Institute. Back in Denmark, he first opened Frydenstrand Sanatorium in association with the Adventist Church's folk high school in Frederikshavn. In 1897, he purchased two buildings in Skodsborg which had previously served as a summer retreat for King Frederick VII and Countess Danner. Raquel Rastenni
Raquel Rastenni (21 August 1915 – 17 August 1998), born Anna Rachel Rastén, was a popular Danish- Russian singer. She was born in Copenhagen, and grew up in an apartment in the poor part of the city. Her Jewish parents immigrated to Denmark from Russia at the start of the 20th century. Her father was a tailor, and her mother was a seamstress. She started her career as a dancer in the Helsingør Revue in 1936. She debuted as a singer in 1938 by being broadcast on radio. She sang with various orchestras through the early 1940s and in 1940 formed her own swing trio. That same year her first record was released. She also toured during these years in Sweden. As a Jew, she fled Denmark in October 1943 along with her family, as the country had come under Nazi occupation. She spent the rest of the war years in Sweden where she continued having great success with her career, performing with orchestras and in cabarets and varieties. Esther Carstensen
Ester Henriette Carstensen née Hansen (10 August 1873–12 December 1955) was a Danish women's rights activist and journal editor. She was one of the most active members of the Danish Women's Society (''Dansk kvindesamfund''), editing its journal from 1908 and becoming its vice-president in 1913. She later headed the Copenhagen chapter of the Women's Society. Christopher De Paus
Christopher Tostrup Paus, Count of Paus (10 September 1862 – 10 September 1943) was a Norwegian landowner, heir to the timber firm Tostrup & Mathiesen, papal chamberlain and count, known as philanthropist, art collector and socialite in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He inherited a fortune from his grandfather, timber magnate Christopher Tostrup, and lived for decades in Rome; in 1923 he bought the estate Herresta in Sweden which is still owned by descendants of his cousin Herman Paus who was married to a granddaughter of Leo Tolstoy. Ragnhild Fabricius Gjellerup
Ragnhild Louise Kathrine Dorothea Lindegaard Smidt Fabricius Gjellerup (1896–1958) was a Danish lawyer who graduated in 1922 from the University of Copenhagen. In 1934, she became the first woman in Denmark to serve as a judge. Biography Born on 25 March 1896 in Copenhagen, Ragnhild Louise Kathrine Dorothea Lindegaard Smidt Fabricius was the daughter of Lieutenant Carl Smidt Fabricius (1855–1942) and his wife Christiane Hansine Juliette Knudsen (1860–1924). In 1922, she married Holger Otto Gjellerup (1883–1959), a merchant. Her marriage exerted considerable influence on her career as from 1923 she became secretary at the municipal court in Copenhagen where she remained for the rest of her professional life. Johannes Meyer (actor)
Johannes Meyer (28 May 1884 – 4 November 1972), was a Danish film actor. He made his stage debut at the Dagmarteatret in Copenhagen in 1905 and went on to appear in more than 100 movies, making his first film playing the role of Erneste des Tressailles in Viggo Larsen's 'Revolutionsbryllup' at the Nordist Film Co in 1909. He was mostly seen in character or supporting roles in many talkies from 1933 until his last film appearance playing the role of Bilvis in Gabriel Axel's 'Hagbard and Signe' in 1967. He was also active on radio and in T.V. dramas and was stage director of the Fonixteatret and Norrebros Theatre before he was hired by the Royal Theatre in 1941. Died in Denmark in 1972, age 88. Oda Laurenze Helmine Nielsen née Larsen (1851–1936) was a highly acclaimed Danish actress who performed both in private theatres in Copenhagen and at the Royal Danish Theatre. Inspired by French actresses, she played the roles of attractive young women, for example in the title roles of Frøken Nitouche and Victorien Sardou's ''Dora''. She later took on roles where she sang, imitating the French singer Yvette Guilbert. Rolighed (Skodsborg)
Rolighed is a former country house in Skodsborg, Rudersdal Municipality, approximately 16 km north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The history of the property dates back to 1780 but the current house is from 1927. Formerly associated with the Conservative People's Party, it now houses Mærsk's Center of Leadership. History The land was acquired by the Norwegian civil servant Carsten Anker in 1780. In 1794, he built a large wooden house on his estate. On 15-16 August, 1807, when the British Army landed their troops at Vedbæk, leading up to the Battle of Copenhagen, they confiscated many of the large country houses along the coast.
