Skafså
Skafså is a parish in southern part of the municipality Tokke in Telemark, Norway. The Skafså Church was consecrated in 1839. The mountain farm Grimdalen, today a museum (Grimdalstunet), has farm buildings from the time of barter economy in the 17th century. Nearby is a collection of around 300 of Anne Grimdalen's sculptures. Skafså Church
Skafså Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tokke Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Skafså. It is one of the churches for the ''Eidsborg, Mo, og Skafså'' parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1839 using plans drawn up by the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 104 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1395, but the church was not new that year. The first church in Skafså was a wooden stave church that was built during the 13th century. There is not much known about the church, other than an inspection report from 1668 where it is described as being similar to the nearby Mo Stave Church. Tokke is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the Traditional districts of Norway, traditional district of Vest-Telemark. Talleiv Huvestad
Talleiv Olavson Huvestad (1761 – 13 July 1847) was a Norwegian teacher, farmer and politician. Talleiv Olavson Huvestad was born on the Storaasli farm in the parish of Skafså in Øvre Telemark, Norway, the son of Olaf Tollefsson Storaasli (1724-1778) and Torbjør Gjermundsdotter Kjestveit (1734-1805). When his father died in his youth, he and his mother moved to the parish of Eidsborg in Tokke in Vest-Telemark where his mother married Vetle Huvestad. In 1794 he took over the Huvestad farm and on 7 November 1797 married Gjertud Rasmusdotter Mandt (1778-1845). They had 8 children. Besides farming, he served as a part-time teacher in rural Telemark villages. He acquired a special knowledge of health and justice and taught other farmers who sent their sons to him for training. He became deputy chairman of the village, and helped organize legal documents for other farmers. With his acquired health care skills, he served as both veterinarian and general practitioner. Anne Grimdalen
Anne Grimdalen (1 November 1899 – 3 October 1961) was a Norwegian sculptor. She was born on the mountain farm Grimdalen in Skafså, Telemark, and later also lived and worked in the so-called ''Kunstnerdalen'' in Asker. She worked mainly with granite, and also bronze. She is represented at the National Gallery of Norway, and was one of the main contributors to the decorations of Oslo City Hall. Education Grimdalen studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1923 to 1926, at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts (1927–1929) under Wilhelm Rasmussen, and in Copenhagen under Einar Utzon-Frank. She made study travels to Italy (1933–34), Greece (1935), Paris and Italy (1938), and London (1947). Two of her inspirators were the painters Henrik Sørensen and Otto Valstad. Telemark
Telemark () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway. Telemark borders the counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. Arvid Torgeir Lie
Arvid Torgeir Lie (18 August 1938 – 19 May 2020) was a Norwegian poet, writer of short stories and translator. He was born in Skafså in Mo, current Tokke municipality. Among his poetry collections are ''Under fuglens vengjekross'' (1967) and ''Snøvinter'' (1968), and his collection of short stories, ''Den nye maskina og andre noveller'', came in 1986. He received the Halldis Moren Vesaas Prize in 1995, and the Dobloug Prize in 2007. Lie died on 19 May 2020. Vetle Vislie
Vetle Vislie (21 September 1858 – 7 February 1933) was a Norwegian educationalist and writer. He was born in Skafså as a son of farmer Gjermund Vetleson Vislie (1825–1903) and Anne Larsdotter Mandt (1818–1904). He made his debut as a playwright in 1899, with ''Utan hovding'', and wrote ''Fru Gerda'' in 1890. His novels include ''Heldøla'' (1895), ''Solvending'' (1897), ''Trollringar'' (1903), ''Malm'' (1906), ''Lukkespel'' (1911) and ''Det nye riket'' (1913).
