Sjælsø
Sjælsø is a lake straddling the borders between the municipalities of Rudersdal Municipality, Rudersdal, Allerød Municipality, Allerød and Hørsholm Municipality, Hørsholm in North Zealand to the north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Situated immediately to the north of the suburban town of Birkerød, it is surrounded by a mixture of farmland, pastures and small woodlands. The lake has an area of 293 hectares and is relatively shallow. It is fed by five minor streams and drains into the Øresund though Usserød Å. It is owned by Nordvand A/S. History The name Sjælsø means "skelsø" and refers to its position on the border between several parishes and Hundred (county division), hundreds. Sjælsø was owned by the crown from 1391 until 1898. Usserød Å
Usserød Å, the principal drainage of Sjælsø, Sjælsø Lake. is a stream in North Zealand to the north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is approximately 9 kilometres long, drops 18 metres and is joined by Donse Å before itself flowing into Nive Å on its way to the Øresund at Nivå. It passes through the protected Usserød Ådal and the town of Hørsholm. Several watermills and early industrial sites are located along its course, the largest being Usserød Textile Factory, Usserød Textile Mill. Course Usserød Å extends from the south side of Sjælsø, Sjælsø Lake. Its first part is heavily regulated and runs through the outskirts of Birkerød, Eskemose Skov and the Istedrød area. It then passes under the Helsingørmotorvejen, Helsingør Motorway and continues through the protected Usserød Ådal (Usserød Valley) at Mortenstrup before entering a suburban neighbourhood just north of Kokkedal station. Birkerød
Birkerød () is a town in Rudersdal Municipality in the northern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is surrounded by several lakes and small woodlands. Birkerød station is located on the Nordbanen, Hillerød radial of the S-train suburban network. History The parish of Birkerød contained the villages Birkerød, Kajerød, Bistrup, Ravnsnæs, Isterød, Høsterkøb, Sandbjerg and Ubberød. Birkerød became a railway town in 1868, when the Nordbanen railway opened a station here between Lyngby and Helsingør. This led to new growth and several brickyards opened in the area in the second half of the 19th century. The rail line between Copenhagen and Hillerød was later converted to an S-train suburban line and construction of new residential neighbourhoods accelerated in the 1940s which, in time, made Birkerød merge with Bistrup to the south, Kajerød to the west and Ravnsnæs to the east. Søllerød
Søllerød is a suburban district of Rudersdal Municipality in the northern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. The original village, one of the oldest in the area, is perched on Søllerød Hill on the south side of Søllerød Lake. It merged with the neighbouring village of Øverød to the north and the modern district of Holte to the southwest in the middle of the 20th century and now forms part of the Urban area of Copenhagen, Greater Copenhagen area. Sandholm
Sandholm is an estate in the parish of Blovstrød, Allerød Municipality some 30 km north of Copenhagen, Denmark. History The Sandholm estate traces its history back to 1653 when Captain Christian Vendelboe constructed a house at the site. He served at Slotsholmen during the Assault on Copenhagen on 19–11 February 1769 and died in the first half of 1660. Sandholm was then passed to his brother, Markus Vendelbo, who was a captain in the same regiment. He was shortly thereafter sentenced to death by sword by a court martial but pardoned on condition that he left the country never to return. In 1661, Sandholm was ceded to Lorenz Tuxen, Bailiff of Hørsholm County. In 1680, Queen Downer Sophie Amalie granted Sandholm to her bodyguard Casper Eberhard Meyer with freedom from all taxes. Gentofte Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in the Capital Region of Denmark (''Region Hovedstaden'') on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark.
