Sarkar (surname)
Sarkar or (Sorkar) is a surname among the people of the Indian subcontinent. It was an honorific title given to landlords/zamindars of East India, irrespective of their religious affiliation, under the Mughal Empire and even in Sher Shah Suri, Sher Shah's reign, as part of the erstwhile Persians, Persian nobility. At present there are Sarkar families in different parts of West Bengal, India as well as in Bangladesh. The surname is mainly used by Bengalis. The Persian language, Persian connotation of the word refers to 'chieftain', 'lord', or 'superintendent'. In modern Bengali language, Bangla and Hindi, however, Sarkar refers to government/governance. ''Sarkar'' is a series of Indian political crime thriller films set in the world of Marathi politics and crime, co-produced and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The first part '' Sarkar'' released in 2005, the second part ''Sarkar Raj'' in 2008, and the third installment ''Sarkar 3'' in 2017. ''Sarkar'' () is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language political crime thriller film directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kay Kay Menon, Katrina Kaif, Tanishaa, Supriya Pathak, Kota Srinivasa Rao, and Anupam Kher. It is the first installment of the ''Sarkar'' film series. ''Sarkar'' () is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language political action film directed by A. R. Murugadoss, who co-wrote the dialogues with B. Jeyamohan, and produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures. The film stars Vijay, Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead roles, alongside Yogi Babu, Tulasi, Radha Ravi and Pala. Karuppiah.
