"Single Girl" is a song written by Martha Sharp. It was an international hit for American singer Sandy Posey from late 1966 to early 1967. The song Like ''Born a Woman'', which was also written by Martha Sharp, ''Single Girl'' contained some sentiments that were ostensibly skeptical of men (for example, "I know all about men and their lies"). But whereas ''Born a Woman'' was seen by some as having feminist overtones, ''Single Girl'' was essentially more traditional in outlook—a young, isolated woman anticipating that "some day", despite not knowing anybody, people being "phoney" and the nights getting "so lonely", she would find waiting for her a man to "lean on". Sandra Lou Posey (June 18, 1944 – July 20, 2024) was an American popular singer who enjoyed success in the 1960s with singles such as her 1966 recording of Martha Sharp's compositions "Born a Woman" and "Single Girl". She was often described as a country music, country singer, although, like Skeeter Davis (to whom she has been frequently compared), her output varied. The Primitives are an English indie pop band from Coventry, best known for their 1988 international hit single "Crash (The Primitives song), Crash". Formed in 1984, disbanded in 1992 and reformed in 2009, the band's two constant members throughout their recording career have been vocalist Tracy Tracy and guitarist Paul "PJ" Court. Rita Chao (11 March 1950 – July 2014), also known as Ling Yun (), was a Singaporean former singer and actress. Active in the 1960s and 1970s, she was known for her partnership with fellow singer Sakura Teng. Known for her knee-high boots and miniskirts, together with Teng they were a popular duo known as the A-Go-Go Queens. In the early 1980s, Chao and Teng broke up following career differences.
