Sick Muse
Metric are a Canadian indie rock band founded in 1998 in Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of Emily Haines (lead vocals, synthesizers, guitar, tambourine, harmonica, piano), James Shaw (guitar, synthesizers, theremin, backing vocals), Joshua Winstead (bass, synthesizers, backing vocals) and Joules Scott-Key (drums, percussion). The band started in 1998 as a duo formed by Haines and Shaw with the name "Mainstream". After releasing an EP titled ''Mainstream EP'', they changed the band's name to Metric. The band's first studio album, '' Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?'', was released in 2003. '' Live It Out'', released in 2005, was nominated for the 2006 Polaris Music Prize for the "Canadian Album of the Year" and for the 2006 Juno Awards for "Best Alternative Album". Lou Reed
Lewis Allan Reed (March 2, 1942October 27, 2013) was an American musician and songwriter. He was the guitarist, singer, and principal songwriter for the rock band the Velvet Underground and had a solo career that spanned five decades. Although not commercially successful during its existence, the Velvet Underground came to be regarded as one of the most influential bands in the history of underground music, underground and alternative rock music. Reed's distinctive deadpan voice, poetic and Transgressive art, transgressive lyrics, and experimental guitar playing were trademarks throughout his long career. Grow Up And Blow Away
''Grow Up and Blow Away'' is the third studio album by the Canadian indie rock band Metric. The album was recorded in 2001, but its release was delayed for years; this was due to their record label, Restless Records, being purchased by Rykodisc. As the years passed, the band's sound changed to the point where they no longer felt the album would be what the fans expected to hear. As such, Metric recorded a completely new album, '' Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?'', and released that instead. Last Gang Records later purchased the rights to the album and released it on June 26, 2007. Compared with the 2001 version, the songs "London Halflife" and "Soft Rock Star" (Jimmy vs. Joe mix) from the 2001 EP '' Static Anonymity'' were added. "Torture Me", "Fanfare", and "Parkdale" were removed. Also, the order of some songs was changed and other songs (like the title track and "Rock Me Now") were slightly re-worked. Juno Awards Of 2006
The Juno Awards of 2006 were held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on the weekend of 31 March to 2 April 2006. These ceremonies honour music industry achievements in Canada during the previous year. The primary ceremonies were hosted by Pamela Anderson at the Halifax Metro Centre on 2 April and televised on CTV. Buck 65 was the ceremony's introduction and preview announcer. Music artists Bedouin Soundclash, Broken Social Scene, Divine Brown, Hedley, Massari and Nickelback performed songs at these ceremonies. Also performing were the co-winners for the 2006 International Album of the Year, The Black Eyed Peas and Coldplay. Bryan Adams was the 2006 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Chris Martin of Coldplay introduced Adams at the primary ceremony. Michael Bublé won four awards, more than any other individual that year. ''Live It Out'' is the second studio album released by the Canadian indie rock band Metric. It was released on September 27, 2005, on Last Gang Records. The album has sold 45,000 copies in the US; it went platinum in Canada, where it sold 100,000 units. ''Live It Out'' was shortlisted for the 2006 Polaris Music Prize and nominated for " Alternative Album of the Year" at Juno Awards 2006. Theremin
The theremin (; originally known as the ætherphone, etherphone, thereminophone or termenvox/thereminvox) is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer (who is known as a thereminist). It is named after its inventor, Leon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The instrument's controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which function not as radio antennas but rather as position sensors. Each antenna forms one half of a capacitor with each of the thereminist's hands as the other half of the capacitor. These antennas capacitively sense the relative position of the hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. The sound of the instrument is often associated with eerie situations. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. Joshua Winstead
Joshua "Josh" Winstead is an American songwriter and musician. He is the bassist and synth player of the Canadian indie rock band Metric. On June 3, 2016, he released his debut solo album ''MMXX'' on his own label Royal Cut Records. Life and career Winstead was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in El Paso, Texas, where he first began playing guitar. Winstead and Joules Scott-Key (drummer for Metric and Bang Lime) both went to the University of North Texas, where they played in a number of bands together starting in 1991. One of these bands was 53 Large Men, who released an album titled ''Period of Senselessness''. The two moved to New York City together, where they played in another band called The Death of Death. Scott-Key was soon invited to join Metric, and Winstead subsequently joined.
