Si Doel Anak Sekolahan
''Si Doel Anak Sekolahan'' (literally translated as ''The Educated Doel'') is an Indonesians, Indonesian television series produced, written and directed by Rano Karno who also stars as Doel/Kasdullah. This series depicts the life of Doel and his family, rooted in Betawi people, Betawi culture, and highlights their traditional way of life amidst the modernization of urban Jakarta. Besides Rano Karno, the series also stars Benyamin Sueb, Maudy Koesnaedi, Cornelia Agatha, Aminah Cendrakasih, Mandra, Suti Karno and Basuki (comedian), Basuki. Consisting of 6 seasons and 139 episodes, the storyline is loosely based from the novel ''Si Doel Anak Betawi'' by Aman Datuk Majoindo and the film with same title directed by Sjumandjaja in 1972. In the film version, Rano Karno also plays Si Doel and Benyamin Sueb plays the role of as Doel's father. The difference is, Doel's father's name is Asman, not Sabeni like in this series. Sjumandjaja
Sjumandjaja ( Perfected Spelling: Syumanjaya; 5 August 1933 – 19 July 1985) was an Indonesian director, screenwriter, and actor. During his career he wrote numerous films, directed fourteen, acted in ten, and produced nine; he also won five Citra Awards from the Indonesian Film Festival. His films reflected social realism. Sjumandjaja was born in Batavia (modern day Jakarta), Dutch East Indies, and grew up there. During high school, he became interested in creative writing and acting, eventually joining the Senen Artists' Group. In 1956, when one of his short stories was adapted into a film, Sjumandjaja became active in the filmmaking industry, writing two films for the production company Persari.
