Short Cuts Soundtrack
The Short Cuts Soundtrack was released in 1993 as the soundtrack album for the film ''Short Cuts''. The album was released by the Imago Recording Company. Several well-known musicians provided material for this album, including Bono and The Edge from U2, Elvis Costello and Iggy Pop. Michael Stipe from R.E.M. makes a guest vocal appearance on one track. Most of the songs are performed by jazz singer Annie Ross, who appears in the film. Actress Lori Singer performs cello on three classical compositions. Hal Willner
Hal Willner (April 6, 1956 – April 7, 2020) was an American music producer working in recording, films, television, and live events. He was best known for assembling tribute albums and events featuring a wide variety of artists and musical styles (jazz, classical, rock, Tin Pan Alley). Willner died during the COVID-19 pandemic from complications brought on by the virus. Early life Willner was born in Philadelphia in 1956. His father and uncle were Holocaust survivors. Willner moved to New York City in 1974 to attend New York University, but did not graduate. Career In the late 1970s, Willner worked under record producer Joel Dorn, credited as associate producer on Leon Redbone's albums ''Double Time'' and '' Champagne Charlie'', and The Neville Brothers' '' Fiyo on the Bayou''. David Cale
David Cale (born David Egleton) is an English-American playwright, actor, and songwriter, best known for his solo performance works. Early life Cale was born in England in 1958 or 1959 and grew up in the town of Luton, Bedfordshire. He failed out of secondary school. After an unsuccessful attempt to get by as a rock singer in London, he changed his name and moved to New York City in 1979—a decision that, as he later described in his play ''We're Only Alive for a Short Amount of Time'', was motivated by violent and traumatic experiences in his youth. Roy Nathanson
Roy Jay Nathanson (born May 17, 1951) is an American saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and teacher. He became the leader and principal composer of the Jazz Passengers, a six piece group that he founded with Curtis Fowlkes in 1987. They have toured Europe many times and played at major festivals in Finland, Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland, as well as the J.V.C. Festival in New York, the Du Maurier Festival in Canada and toured throughout the United States and Canada. The band has recorded eight albums since their debut release. Bruce Fowler
Bruce Lambourne Fowler (born July 10, 1947) is an American trombonist and composer. He played trombone on many Frank Zappa records, as well as with Captain Beefheart and in the Fowler Brothers Band. He composes and arranges music for movies, and has been the composer, orchestrator, or conductor for many popular films. He is the son of jazz educator William L. Fowler and the brother of multi-instrumentalist Walt Fowler and bassist Tom Fowler. Victor August Herbert (February 1, 1859 – May 26, 1924) was an American composer, Cello, cellist and conducting, conductor of English and Irish ancestry and German training. Gavin Friday (born Fionán Martin Hanvey, 8 October 1959) is an Irish singer and songwriter, composer, actor and painter, best known as a founding member of the post-punk group The Virgin Prunes. Early life Fionan Hanvey was born in Dublin and attended primary and post-primary schools in Ballygall, a neighbourhood on Dublin's Northside (Dublin), Northside, between Finglas and Glasnevin. Terry Adams (musician)
Terry Adams (born August 14, 1948) is an American musician and composer. He is a founding member of the band NRBQ (New Rhythm and Blues Quintet/Quartet), which was formed in 1965. Adams was born in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met fellow resident Steve Ferguson, a singer and guitarist who also became a charter member of NRBQ. His younger brother, Donn Adams, has served the band in various support roles, including originally coining the NRBQ name, playing the trombone (as part of the "Whole Wheat Horn" section), and writing liner notes.
