District (Taiwan)
Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipalities of the second level and provincial cities of the third level formerly under its provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme. Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government with district administrators appointed by the mayors to four-year terms. The mountain indigenous district is a local government body with elected district chiefs as well as district council serving four-year terms. History The first administrative divisions entitled "districts" were established in the 1900s when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. Special Municipality Of Taiwan
Special municipality, historically known as Yuan-controlled municipality is a first-level administrative division unit in the Republic of China (Taiwan). Under the administrative structure of Taiwan, it is the highest level of division in Taiwan and is equivalent to a province. Since the streamlining of provinces in 1998, the special municipalities along with provincial cities and counties have all been directly under the central government. Shigang Dam
Shihgang Dam () is a concrete gravity barrage dam across the Dajia River in Shigang District and Dongshi District of Taichung, Taiwan, located near Fengyuan District. The dam was built from 1974 to 1977 for flood control and irrigation purposes, and stands high and long, holding a reservoir with an original capacity of . The dam was heavily damaged in the 921 earthquake of 1999, which caused the collapse of its northern end. Subsequently, an embankment cofferdam was built to prevent water from flowing through the breach, while the collapsed section has been retained as a memorial. Tuniu Hakka Cultural Museum
The Tuniu Hakka Cultural Museum () is a museum in Shigang District, Taichung Taichung (, Wade–Giles: ''Tʻai²-chung¹'', pinyin: ''Táizhōng''), officially Taichung City, is a special municipality located in central Taiwan. Taichung has approximately 2.8 million residents and is the second most populous city of Ta ..., Taiwan. History The original building belongs to the Liu family. On 21 September 1999, it collapsed due to the 1999 Jiji earthquake. Afterwards, the family applied for government subsidy to reconstruct the building. Six years later it was rebuilt at the original site with its original design and appearance and named Tuniu Hakka Cultural Museum on 9 May 2006.
