Sherwood Boehlert
Sherwood Louis Boehlert (September 28, 1936September 20, 2021) was an American politician from New York. He represented a large swath of central New York in the United States House of Representatives from 1983 until 2007. Boehlert, a Republican, was considered to be a member of the party's moderate wing. He served as Chairman of the Science Committee from 2001 to 2006. Early life, education, and early political career Sherwood Louis Boehlert was born on September 28, 1936, in Utica, New York, to Elizabeth Monica ( Champoux) and Sherwood Boehlert, and graduated from Utica College. He was a practicing Roman Catholic. He served two years in the United States Army (1956–1958) and then worked as a manager of public relations for Wyandotte Chemical Company. Acid Rain
Acid rain is rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic, meaning that it has elevated levels of hydrogen ions (low pH). Most water, including drinking water, has a neutral pH that exists between 6.5 and 8.5, but acid rain has a pH level lower than this and ranges from 4–5 on average. The more acidic the acid rain is, the lower its pH is. Acid rain can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure. Acid rain is caused by emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids. Acid rain has been shown to have adverse impacts on forests, freshwaters, soils, microbes, insects and aquatic life-forms. New York's 24th Congressional District
The 24th congressional district of New York is located in Upstate New York, stretching alongside Lake Ontario from near Buffalo in the west to Watertown in the east, whilst not including Rochester which is instead in the 25th district. Since 2023, it has been represented by Claudia Tenney, and in the 2022 election it was the most Republican district in the state. New York's 23rd Congressional District
The 23rd congressional district of New York is located in Upstate, and covers much of the Southern Tier. It extends along New York's border with Pennsylvania from the shores of Lake Erie in Chautauqua County to the suburbs of Binghamton in Tioga County. The district includes three of the eleven Finger Lakes: Keuka Lake, Seneca Lake, and Cayuga Lake. New York's 25th Congressional District
The 25th congressional district of New York is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives. It is currently represented by Democrat Joseph Morelle. The district is now located within Monroe County and part of Orleans County, centered on the city of Rochester. Since 2013, the 25th district has been located entirely within Monroe County, and includes the City of Rochester and surrounding suburbs. In the 2018 race, the seat was vacant.
