Sherman is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Wexford County, Michigan, Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As an unincorporated community, Sherman has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own. The community is located in the northwest portion of the county at the corner of four townships: Antioch Township, Michigan, Antioch, Hanover Township, Wexford County, Michigan, Hanover, Springville Township, Michigan, Springville, and Wexford Township, Michigan, Wexford. Settled as early as 1862, it was one of the earliest settlements in Wexford County and served as the first county seat from 1869 until 1881. The village is located within Hanover Township, and lies immediately south of the Grand Traverse County line. History The area that is now Buckley was historically traversed by what is now known as the Old Indian Trail, a trail which connected the Cadillac area to the Traverse City area.
