Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kaloleni, Tanzania, Kaloleni ward of Arusha in Arusha Region of Tanzania. It is named after the Tanzanian cleric, politician and poet Kaluta Amri Abeid and is currently used mostly for association football, football matches and serves as the home venue for Arusha FC. The stadium was the host of the 2011 Kilimanjaro Bowl, the first American football game played on the continent of Africa. It holds 20,000 people. References

2011 Kilimanjaro Bowl
The 2011 Global Kilimanjaro Bowl was the first college football game played on the continent of Africa. The game at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium in Arusha, Tanzania was played on May 21, 2011, due to the seasonal difference in Africa, featuring Drake against an All-Star team of Mexican players from the league. It marked the first NCAA Division I bowl game versus a Mexican opponent since the 1945 Sun Bowl, and the first to be played after the BCS Championship Game. Organization The title sponsor of the game was Global Football, along with counterpart sponsors Iowa Resource for International Service (IRIS), IRIS Youth Exchange & Study Program alumni from Tanzania, Tanapa Partners and Younger Optics. Kaluta Amri Abeid (Kaluta Amri Abedi, Sheikh Amri Abeid Kaluta, Sheikh Kaluta, 1924–1964) was a Tanzanian Muslim cleric (Sheikh), civil servant, politician and poet. Biography Kaluta Amri Abeid was the second Minister of Justice of Tanganyika and Minister of Development and Culture under President Julius Nyerere in 1963-1964, and the first African mayor of Dar es Salaam. He also was a seminal Swahili poet and translator. Abeid was a prominent member of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) and led the national delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York. Abeid was on the presidential commission to advise over turning Tanzania into a one-party state. However, he died in 1964 before the commission delivered its final report.
