Sheema, also Sheema Municipality, is an urban centre in the Western Region of Uganda. It is the largest municipality in Sheema District. Location Sheema lies on the Mbarara–Ishaka Road, approximately west of Mbarara, the largest city in the sub-region. This is about east of Ishaka. The coordinates of the town are:0°34'52.0"S, 30°22'46.0"E (Latitude:-0.581111; Longitude). The elevation of the Kibingo neighborhood in Sheema Municipality is , above sea level. Elioda Tumwesigye
Elioda Tumwesigye (born 6 April 1964) is a Ugandan politician, physician, and epidemiologist who has served as minister of science, technology and innovation in the cabinet of Uganda since June 2016. From March 2015 until June 2016, he served as the minister of health. Tumwesigye has been the elected member of parliament representing Sheema Municipality in Sheema District, since 2018. From 25 July 2013 to 28 February 2015, he served as state minister for health (general duties). He was promoted to minister of health on 1 March 2015, taking a slot left vacant since 18 September 2014. Background and education Tumwesigye was born in Sheema District on 5 April 1964 to Yekonia and Edinance Kasyamutwe. He was their second child. Sheema District
Sheema District is a district in Western Uganda. Location Sheema District is bordered by Buhweju District to the north, Mbarara District to the east, Ntungamo District to the south, Mitooma District to the southwest and Bushenyi District to the west. Ankole Western University
Ankole Western University (AWU) is an Anglican institution of higher learning in Uganda. It is owned and administered by the Western Ankole Diocese of the Church of Uganda. Location The university is located in the town of Kabwohe, in Sheema District, Western Uganda. This location is approximately , by road, southwest of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Agather Atuhaire
Agather Atuhaire (born c. 1988) is a Ugandan lawyer, journalist, and human rights activist known for her investigative work on corruption and maladministration in public institutions. Her reporting, particularly on the Parliament of Uganda, has led to public discourse and has earned her international recognition, including the EU Human Rights Defenders Award and the U.S. Secretary of State's International Women of Courage Award. Early life and education Atuhaire was born in Sheema District in Western Uganda. She has spoken about a difficult childhood, attributing it to her father's struggles with alcoholism. Districts Of Uganda
As of 1 July 2020, Uganda is divided into 135 districts plus the capital city of Kampala, which are grouped into four Regions of Uganda, geographic regions. Since 2005, the Ugandan government has been in the process of dividing districts into smaller units. This decentralization is intended to prevent resources from being distributed primarily to chief towns and leaving the remainder of each district neglected. Mbarara–Ishaka Road is a road in the Western Region of Uganda, connecting the towns of Mbarara in Mbarara District with Ishaka in Bushenyi District. Ankole Sub-region
Ankole sub-region is a region in the Western Region of Uganda that consists of the following districts: * Buhweju District * Bushenyi District * Ibanda District * Isingiro District * Kazo District * Kiruhura District * Mbarara District * Mbarara City * Mitooma District * Ntungamo District * Rwampara District * Rubirizi District * Sheema District * Rubanda District * Kanungu District The area covered by the above districts constituted the traditional Ankole Kingdom. Milton Obote abolished the traditional kingdoms in Uganda in 1967. When Yoweri Museveni re-established them in 1993, Ankole did not re-constitute itself.
