Agather Atuhaire
Agather Atuhaire (born c. 1988) is a Ugandan lawyer, journalist, and human rights activist known for her investigative work on corruption and maladministration in public institutions. Her reporting, particularly on the Parliament of Uganda, has led to public discourse and has earned her international recognition, including the EU Human Rights Defenders Award and the U.S. Secretary of State's International Women of Courage Award. Early life and education Atuhaire was born in Sheema District in Western Uganda. She has spoken about a difficult childhood, attributing it to her father's struggles with alcoholism. Supported by a scholarship, she completed her secondary education at Alliance School Mbarara. Although her initial ambition was to study law, financial constraints led her to first pursue a degree in journalism at Makerere University. Sheema District
Sheema District is a district in Western Uganda. Location Sheema District is bordered by Buhweju District to the north, Mbarara District to the east, Ntungamo District to the south, Mitooma District to the southwest and Bushenyi District to the west. Anita Among
Anita Annet Among (born 23 November 1973) is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who is the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda since 2022. She also concurrently serves as the elected member of parliament for the Bukedea District Women Constituency, the same position she held in the 10th Parliament (2016–2021). She was in FDC party before she joined the ruling NRM where she was voted as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Parliament. She is also the second female deputy speaker in the history of Uganda's parliament after Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. She is named in the torture complaint against the Ugandan government that was submitted with the International Criminal Court. The term "the people" refers to the public or common mass of people of a polity. As such it is a concept of human rights law, international law as well as constitutional law, particularly used for claims of popular sovereignty.
