Shea Heights
Shea Heights is a small neighbourhood located in the hills of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is also locally known as "The Hill", and "The Brow". History Shea Heights was originally settled outside of the city of St. John's in the 1930s. The community was originally called Blackhead Road, but changed its name to Shea Heights in order to honour a local priest. The community was added to the St. John's metropolitan region in the 1960s as part of the Canadian urban renewal project and fully integrated into St. John's in 1984. A $4.1 million renewal project in the 1960s, announced by Joey Smallwood, helped transform the Blackhead Road community. At the time, about 2,000 people lived in 336 "tiny shacks." A reservoir was also created as part of the project. The residents of the community used a National Film Board of Canada grant to help demonstrate the need for a sewerage system to the provincial government in 1973. Joey Smallwood
Joseph Roberts Smallwood (December 24, 1900 – December 17, 1991) was a Newfoundlander and Canadian politician. He was the main force who brought the Dominion of Newfoundland into Canadian Confederation in 1949, becoming the first premier of Newfoundland, serving until 1972. As premier, he vigorously promoted economic development, championed the welfare state, and emphasized modernization of education and transportation. The results of his efforts to promote industrialization were mixed, with the most favourable results in hydroelectricity, iron mining and paper mills. Smallwood was charismatic and controversial. While many Canadians today remember Smallwood as the man who brought Newfoundland into Canada, the opinions held by Newfoundlanders and their diaspora remain sharply divided as to his legacy. ''How to Be Deadly'' is a 2014 Canadian comedy film, directed by Nik Sexton. The film stars Leon Parsons as Donnie Dumphy, an unemployed slacker in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, who enters a minibike competition in the hopes of winning back his ex-girlfriend Brenda (Gina Cook) after she breaks up with him due to his lack of ambition. Harold Druken
Harold Druken (born January 26, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He was drafted 36th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. He played for the Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs during his National Hockey League (NHL) career, and also played professionally in Switzerland for EHC Basel. Druken spent most of his professional career in the minor leagues with the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates of the Canucks, Maple Leafs and Hurricanes.
