Seán Óg Sheehy
Seán Óg Sheehy (24 May 1939 – 31 May 2024) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with John Mitchels and at inter-county level with the Kerry senior football team. Sheehy captained Kerry to the All-Ireland SFC title in 1962. Early life Born and raised in Tralee, County Kerry, his father, John Joe Sheehy, was a four-time All-Ireland SFC-winner and two-time winning captain with Kerry. Sheehy first played Gaelic football as a schoolboy with Tralee CBS and was a Munster Colleges runner-up in 1956. He later played with University College Cork and University College Dublin and was a Sigerson Cup runner-up in 1960. Club career Sheehy began his club career at juvenile and underage levels with the John Mitchels club in Tralee. He eventually progressed to adult level and won his first Kerry SFC after a 3-09 to 1-10 defeat of Feale Rangers in the 1959 final replay. John Mitchels GAA (Kerry)
John Mitchels GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They are based in the Camp area just outside of Tralee. Club history Before 1927 only one team represented Tralee in the Kerry Senior Football County Championship and they were Tralee John Mitchels. As this team was so successful the Kerry County Board requested that it should be divided into three individual teams representing, Boherbee, Rock St. and Strand St, this is where the John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's clubs came from. The John Mitchels club since 1927 are thought to be one of the most successful clubs in Kerry. Between 1959 and 1963 they won five Senior Football titles in a row, the only team to do so in the history of the Kerry County Championship. The 1959 Kerry Senior Football Championship was the 59th staging of the Kerry Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Kerry County Board in 1889. South Kerry entered the championship as the defending champions. The final was played on 26 June 1960 between John Mitchels and Feale Rangers, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. The Kildare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kildare GAA, is one of 12 county boards governed by the Leinster provincial council of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Kildare. History Early years The East Kerry Board was founded in 1925 following a decision to sub-divide Kerry into a number of divisions. The first chairman and secretary were football legends Dick Fitzgerald and Paul Russell.
