Settlefish
Settlefish was an Italian indie rock band based in Bologna, Italy formed in 2001. They have released three albums and various splits & EP's. They exclusively sing in English. The vocalist, Jonathan Clancy, was born in Canada. History Their first album, ''Dance A While'' was released in 2003. Later they became one of the first Italian groups to be put under contract by an American record company, in their case Deep Elm Records. For this reason, in between March and April 2003 they participated in the "Too young to die" benefit tour, organized by Deep Elm with the American association against youth suicide. In early 2005, Deep Elm released their second album, ''The Plural of the Choir''. After the album's release, an intensive series of concerts occurred in the United States, performances in half of Europe, as well as some appearances on MTV. Sounds Like Violence
Sounds Like Violence are a four-piece emo/indie rock group from Ängelholm, Sweden. They are currently signed to Deep Elm Records (within the United States) and Burning Heart Records (in the rest of the world). Their debut album, With Blood On My Hands, was released on 12th Feb, 2007 to some critical acclaim. They previously released an EP, titled The Pistol, in 2004 and contributed songs to Deep Elm compilations including "Emo Diaries No. 10" and a "Split" EP. History Sounds Like Violence decided to stay in their hometown Ängelholm. The indie rock group formed by Vocalist/guitarist Andreas Söderlund in 2001. Later joined by bassist/vocalist Daniel Teodorsson, drummer Daniel Petersson, and guitarist Philip Hall, most of whom also played in known band Niccokick. Sad Songs Remind Me
''Sad Songs Remind Me'' is the ninth installment in ''The Emo Diaries'' series of compilation albums, released June 24, 2003 by Deep Elm Records. As with all installments in the series, the label had an open submissions policy for bands to submit material for the compilation, and as a result the music does not all fit within the emo style. As with the rest of the series, ''Sad Songs Remind Me'' features mostly unsigned bands contributing songs that were previously unreleased. Reviewer Tim Sendra of Allmusic reviewed the album negatively, remarking that "overall this is a disappointing collection that seems to hint that emo has run out of gas": Each of the 12 tracks sounds professional and accomplished. Also, apart from the anguished vocals and sad lyrics, the bands are strangely emotionless. The glossy production values and lack of exciting moments will most likely leave listeners cold. Deep Elm Records
Deep Elm Records is an independent record label releasing albums by bands such as Lights & Motion, The Appleseed Cast, Brandtson, The White Octave, and Planes Mistaken for Stars. It also released the compilation series ''The Emo Diaries''. History Deep Elm Records started in New York City by John Szuch. Deep Elm's first release was the single "Anthemic Tune" by Curdlefur in 1995. Its first album was by Camber (band), Camber in March 1997. In 2006 Deep Elm Records signed its first UK act, Free Diamonds. By 2008, Deep Elm stopped pressing physical CDs and Phonograph record, vinyl, effectively becoming a Digital audio, digital only label. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Modest Mouse
Modest Mouse is an American rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington, and currently based in Portland, Oregon. The founding members are lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. Strongly influenced by Pavement, Pixies, XTC, and Talking Heads, they rehearsed, rearranged, and recorded demos for almost two years before finally signing with small-town indie label K Records and releasing numerous singles. Red Red Meat
Red Red Meat was a 1990s Chicago-area blues-influenced alternative rock band. After their break-up, frontman Tim Rutili went on to form Califone, for which many of Red Red Meat's former members, including percussionist Ben Massarella, often record and perform. Tim Hurley went on to form Sin Ropas. History In 1984, Tim Rutili moved from the suburb of Addison, IL to Chicago in order to attend film school, where he met bassist Glynis Johnson. Together with Ben Massarella, their first band, Friends of Betty, attracted a reasonable following. The 1988 studio album ''Blind Faith II'' included drummer John Rowan. It was not much of a success. With new recruit Glenn Girard they renamed the band Red Red Meat. The band's name possibly came from Ben's truck washing business which cleaned meat carrying trucks on their way out of Chicago. June of 44 is an American rock band which was formed in 1994 from ex-members of Rodan, Lungfish, Rex, and Hoover. The band's name refers to the period during which writers Henry Miller and Anaïs Nin corresponded. The band toured extensively, reaching as far as Australia. They were a collective from 1994 to 2000, and reunited in 2018. Their style consists of a post-hardcore and math rock base, while their later releases delve into experimental jazz, ambient dub and angular post-punk. Their debut album ''Engine Takes to the Water'' (1995) drew comparisons with both Slint and Will Oldham. The following year's ''Tropics and Meridians'' saw the band compared to Tortoise and The For Carnation. At The Drive-In
At the Drive-In was an American post-hardcore band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 1994. The band's most recent line-up consisted of Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals), Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar, vocals), Paul Hinojos (bass), Tony Hajjar (drums) and Keeley Davis (guitar, vocals). After several early line-up changes, the band solidified into a five-piece, consisting of Bixler-Zavala, Rodríguez-López, Jim Ward, Hinojos and Hajjar. At the Drive-In released three studio albums and five EPs before breaking up in 2001. Their third and final album before their split, 2000's '' Relationship of Command'', received a number of accolades and is cited as a landmark of the post-hardcore genre.
