Service-oriented Provisioning
Service-oriented provisioning (SOP) is a technology concept developed during the early 2000s to curb the hyper competition developing in the Wireless Internet service provider (WISP) and ISP space. It refers to the capability of defining and working with "services" instead of "on/off" internet access or " service profiles" - see the RADIUS protocol. By enabling service-oriented provisioning, a telecommunication service provider can define their service offering as a specific set of services, the main advantage being that product differentiation can be achieved and thus price differentiation. Consumer advantage Consumers can choose services adapted to their need, this becomes specifically interesting in modern type broadband networks where traditional "laptop" access is mixed with smaller hand held devices targeting for example voice services. Wireless Internet Service Provider
A wireless Internet service provider (WISP) is an Internet service provider with a network based on wireless networking. Technology may include commonplace Wi-Fi wireless mesh networking, or proprietary equipment designed to operate over open 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 4.9, 5, 24, and 60 GHz bands or licensed frequencies in the UHF band (including the MMDS frequency band), LMDS, and other bands from 6 GHz to 80 GHz. In the US, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a Report and Order, FCC 05-56 in 2005 that revised the FCC’s rules to open the 3650 MHz band for terrestrial wireless broadband operations. On November 14, 2007 the Commission released a Public Notice (DA 07-4605) in which the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau announced the start date for the licensing and registration process for the 3650-3700 MHz band. Service Profile
Universal personal telecommunications (UPT) was a special segment of the international telephone number space which had been set aside for universal personal telephone numbers. This service had been allocated country code +87810 and was completed by a 10-digit subscriber number which provided 10 billion unique numbers. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) introduced this concept in 2001, referring to it as "global number portability" (not to be confused with number portability). The delegation of UPT was requested by VisionNG Chairman Herwart Wermescher and was confirmed by Counsellor, SG2 of ITU-TSB Richard Hill on May 21, 2002. AmazingPorts is a Linux-based software product customized for use as a firewall, captive portal and billing system (Hotspots). The project started in 2001.
