Seoul Future Heritage () is a designation by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for entities in Seoul that are deemed worthy of preservation. Various things can be so designated, including buildings, restaurants, books, and foods. The designation has existed since 2012, and is maintained by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Entities with the designation receive various benefits from the city government, including tourism support and funding for repairs. Description Seoul is the capital of South Korea. It has experienced significant redevelopment in its recent history, with older entities being replaced by newer at a significant pace. While the city has significant amenities, some have argued that the city's identity has become less distinct amidst these losses. The Seoul Metropolitan Government () is a local government of Seoul, South Korea. The mayor is elected to a four-year term by the citizens of Seoul and is responsible for the administration of the city government. ''The Korea Times'' () is a daily English-language newspaper in South Korea. It is a sister paper of the ''Hankook Ilbo'', a major Korean language, Korean-language daily. Oh Se-hoon
Oh Se-hoon (; born 4 January 1961) is a South Korean politician and lawyer who has served as the mayor of Seoul since 2021, an office he previously held from 2006 to 2011. A member of the People Power Party, he served as a member of the National Assembly from 2000 to 2004. Early life and education Oh was born on 4 January 1961 in Seongdong District, Seoul. Oraegage
Oraegage (), also stylized as OraeGage and translated to Seoul Historical Store, is a designation by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for long-running businesses. The program recognizes such businesses, offers them support, and provides information on them for tourists. It has been running since 2017. The name of the program means literally "old store", but reportedly also has a meaning of "store that is wanted to be even older". The program reportedly selects entries in its list by scouting the city, conducting interviews and verifying aspects of the business, and narrowing down candidates. Members of the list reportedly have been running for over 30 years or have been owned by at least two generations. Heritage Preservation In South Korea
The heritage preservation system of South Korea is a multi-level program aiming to preserve and cultivate Korean cultural heritage. The program is administered by the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA), and the legal framework is provided by the Cultural Heritage Protection Act of 1962, last updated in 2012. The program started in 1962 and has gradually been extended and upgraded since then. The CHA classifies cultural heritage into five major categories (state-designated heritage, Cities of South Korea, city and Provinces of South Korea, province-designated heritage, cultural heritage material, registered cultural heritage, undesignated cultural heritage) and these are divided further into subcategories.
