Sensotronic Brake Control
Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) is an electro-hydraulic brake system developed by Daimler and Bosch. In this system, the wheel brake cylinders of a vehicle are operated through a servomechanism, offering precise and responsive braking. The SBC system was first introduced on the R230 SL-class, which was released in Europe in October 2001. Mechanics The Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) system operates using a hydraulic high-pressure reservoir to supply brake fluid. A piston pump, driven by an electric motor, generates controlled brake fluid pressure ranging between and in the gas diaphragm reservoir. A hydraulic brake is an arrangement of braking mechanism which uses brake fluid, typically containing glycol ethers or diethylene glycol, to transfer pressure from the controlling mechanism to the braking mechanism. The C219 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is the first generation of the CLS-Class range of four-door coupe which features a fastback body style by Mercedes-Benz, and was produced between 2003 and 2010. A yaw-rate sensor is a gyroscopic device that measures a vehicle's yaw rate, its angular velocity around its vertical axis. The angle between the vehicle's heading and velocity is called its slip angle, which is related to the yaw rate. Types There are two types of yaw-rate sensors: piezoelectric and micromechanical. In the piezoelectric type, the sensor is a tuning fork-shaped structure with four piezoelectric elements, two on top and two below. When the slip angle is zero (no slip), the upper elements produce no voltage as no Coriolis force acts on them. But when cornering, the rotational movement causes the upper part of the tuning fork to leave the oscillatory plane, creating an alternating voltage (and thus an alternating current) proportional to the yaw rate and oscillatory speed. Electronic Stability Program
Electronic stability control (ESC), also referred to as electronic stability program (ESP) or dynamic stability control (DSC), is a computerized technology that improves a vehicle's stability by detecting and reducing loss of traction ( skidding). When ESC detects loss of steering control, it automatically applies the brakes to help steer the vehicle where the driver intends to go. Braking is automatically applied to wheels individually, such as the outer front wheel to counter oversteer, or the inner rear wheel to counter understeer. Some ESC systems also reduce engine power until control is regained. ESC does not improve a vehicle's cornering performance; instead, it helps reduce the chance of the driver losing control of the vehicle on a slippery road.
