Selangor Football Club ( Malay: ''Kelab Bola Sepak Selangor'') is a professional football club based in the city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The club currently competes in the Malaysia Super League, the top tier of Malaysian football. The club is nicknamed ''The Red Giants''. It was officially founded in 1936 by the Football Association of Selangor (FAS). On 2 October 2020, the club officially made its privatization as Selangor Football Club after it was officially approved by the Football Association of Malaysia on 29 September. The club currently plays its home games at the Petaling Jaya Stadium after the club's original home ground, the Shah Alam Stadium, was closed to undergo major renovation and rebuilding work which was prolonged for an extended period of time. Selangor ( ; ), also known by the Arabic language, Arabic honorific Darul Ehsan, or "Abode of Sincerity", is one of the 13 states of Malaysia. The league was managed by the Football Association of Malaysia. Abdul Ghani Minhat
Tan Sri Datuk Abdul Ghani bin Minhat ( Jawi: عبدالغني منحت; December 1935 – 28 September 2012) was an association football player who represented Selangor FA and Negeri Sembilan FA from the 1950s to the late 1960s. He played as a striker and winger for both the Malaya and the Malaysia national teams. He was widely known by the nickname ''Raja Bola'' ("King of Football") and is regarded as one of Malaysia's greatest football players. 1967 Asian Champion Club Tournament
The 1967 Asian Champion Club Tournament was the first edition of the annual Asian club football competition hosted by the Asian Football Confederation. Six teams, as their respective country's domestic champions, competed in a knockout tournament to determine the first Asian champion: the Iranian FA did not send a team, while India's representative, Indian Railways, withdrew before the tournament due to excessive travel costs. The FAM Cup ( Malay: Piala FAM) was a knock-out football tournament for the Malaysia M3 League and the Malaysia M4 League in Malaysia. The Malaysia Premier League () was the second-tier professional football league in Malaysia. It replaced the Liga Perdana 2 in the Malaysian football league system. The Malaysia Premier League was contested by 12 clubs. The season usually ran from early February to late October, with a Ramadan break depending on the Islamic calendar. Clubs played 22 matches (home and away), totalling 132 matches in the season. Most games were played on Fridays, with a few games played during weekdays.
