The Sejm (, ), officially known as the Sejm of the Republic of Poland ( pl, Sejm Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej), is the lower house of the bicameralism, bicameral parliament of Poland. The Sejm has been the highest governing body of the Third Polish Republic since the Polish People’s Republic, transition of government in 1989. Along with the upper house of parliament, the Senate of Poland, Senate, it forms the national legislature in Poland known as Parliament of Poland#National Assembly, National Assembly ( pl, Zgromadzenie Narodowe, links=no). The Sejm comprises 460 Member of parliament, deputies (singular or ) elected every four years by Universal suffrage, universal ballot. Marek Sawicki
Marek Wacław Sawicki (; born 8 April 1958) is a Polish politician. He was elected to the Sejm on 25 September 2005, receiving 6527 votes in 18 Siedlce district as a candidate on the Polish People's Party list and served as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on two occasions. He was first appointed to the post on 16 November 2007 and left on 26 July 2012. On 17 March 2014 he then took over from Stanisław Kalemba and served until the Cabinet of Beata Szydło was sworn in on 16 November 2015. He was also a member of Sejm 1993-1997, Sejm 1997-2001, and Sejm 2001-2005. On 15–16 December 2011 the European Council of Agriculture and Fisheries under the presidency of Marek Sawicki adopted a decision authorizing the signing of an anti-counterfeiting trade agreement (ACTA). It is the largest association of local government activists in Poland. Modern ( pl, Nowoczesna, styled as ".Nowoczesna") is a centrist political party in Poland. It is currently led by Adam Szłapka. It was formed in 2015 as "ModernPL" although due to controversy it had to change the name to ".Modern" later that year. Its first president Ryszard Petru served until 2017, when he was succeeded by Katarzyna Lubnauer. It first gained seats in the 2015 parliamentary election, and in 2018 it joined the Civic Coalition to participate together in the local elections. Szłapka was elected as president in 2019. Modern is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, and it is orientated towards the principles of liberalism, and classical liberalism. The Civic Coalition ( pl, Koalicja Obywatelska, KO)) is a catch-all political alliance in Poland. The alliance was formed around Civic Platform in opposition to the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. The coalition's name uses a play on words with ''Ja Obywatel'', which translates to "I, Citizen". History The Civic Coalition was originally created by the Civic Platform and Modern parties for 2018 local elections. The Third Cabinet of Donald Tusk is the coalition government of Poland headed by Donald Tusk who was officially nominated and confirmed as the Prime Minister of Poland on 11 December 2023 by the members of the Sejm following the failure of Mateusz Morawiecki's Third Cabinet to secure a vote of confidence. Law and Justice ( pl, Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , PiS) is a right-wing populist and national-conservative political party in Poland. Its chairman is Jarosław Kaczyński. It was founded in 2001 by Jarosław and Lech Kaczyński as a direct successor of the Centre Agreement after it split from the Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS). It managed to win the 2005 parliamentary and presidential elections, after which Lech became the president of Poland. Jarosław Aleksander Kaczyński (; born 18 June 1949) is a Polish politician who is currently serving as leader of the Law and Justice party (known by its Polish acronym PiS), which he co-founded in 2001 with his twin brother, Lech Kaczyński, who served as president of Poland until his death in 2010. Running for PiS, he served as the prime minister of Poland from July 2006 to November 2007, while his brother was the president of Poland.
