Second Spring
''Second Spring'' is the first album by country rock/folk rock musician Ian Matthews' band Matthews Southern Comfort, released on the Uni label in July 1970. It was Matthews' second album after his departure from Fairport Convention and was recorded with the touring band he put together following the release of his first solo LP, '' Matthews' Southern Comfort''. The original vinyl album was reissued on CD by Line Records in Germany in 1993, and a remastered version was released by BGO Records in 1996 as part of a 2-on-1 release with ''Matthews' Southern Comfort''. Matthews Southern Comfort
Matthews Southern Comfort (MSC) is a British country rock/folk rock band, formed in 1970 by former Fairport Convention singer Ian (later Iain) Matthews. The original line-up consisted of Matthews, lead guitarist Mark Griffiths (who later become the bass player with the Shadows and the Everly Brothers), rhythm guitarist Carl Barnwell, bass player Pete Watkins, drummer Roger Swallow and pedal steel guitarist Gordon Huntley. Watkins and Swallow left the band after a few weeks and were replaced by bass player Andy Leigh and drummer Ray Duffy. The band was formed to enable Matthews to tour following the success of his first post-Fairport album, released in early 1970, '' Matthews' Southern Comfort''. Steve Gillette
Steve Gillette (born 1942) and Cindy Mangsen (born 1950) are American folk musicians and singer-songwriters who have been traveling, performing and recording together since their marriage in 1989. Their album ''Live In Concert'', recorded at The Ark in Ann Arbor in 1991, is available from their own company, Compass Rose Music. A second duet album, ''The Light Of The Day'', was named Top Folk Album of 1996 by Rich Warren (WFMT) and Matt Watroba (WDET). Their third duet recording, ''A Sense Of Place'', was released on Redwing Music in 2001. Their 2006 duet CD is called ''Being There'' (Compass Rose, 2006). Allan Thomas Paley (March 19, 1928 – September 30, 2017) was an American guitarist, banjo and fiddle player. He was best known for his work with the New Lost City Ramblers in the 1950s and 1960s. Thomas Gordon Huntley (20 December 1925 – 7 March 1988) was a British steel guitar player, best known for being a member of Matthews Southern Comfort. Sylvia Tyson, (''née'' Fricker; born 19 September 1940) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician and broadcaster. She is best known as part of the folk duo Ian & Sylvia, with Ian Tyson. Since 1993, she has been a member of the all-female folk group Quartette. Early life Tyson was born Sylvia Fricker in Chatham, Ontario, the second of four children. Her father was an appliance salesman for the T. Eaton Company, and her mother was a church organist and choir leader. At a young age Fricker decided to become a singer. Gillette released his first recording of it in 1967 on his eponymous album, ''Steve Gillette''.
