Dan Seavey, also known as "Roaring" Dan Seavey, (March 23, 1865 – February 14, 1949) was a sailor, fisherman, farmer, saloon keeper, prospector, U.S. marshal, thief, poacher, smuggler, hijacker, human trafficker, and timber pirate in Wisconsin and Michigan and on the Great Lakes in the late 19th to early 20th century. Early life Seavey was born in Portland, Maine, on March 23, 1865. Nina Gilden Seavey is a documentary filmmaker and Research Professor of History and Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University (GWU). She was the Director of the Documentary Center at GW, which she founded in October 1990, before stepping down in 2020. Eli Seavey Ricker (April 29, 1843 - May 17, 1926) was a corporal serving the Union Army during the American Civil War, newspaper editor, rancher, judge, and activist known for his support of Native Americans and other social causes. He was one of the first historians to recognize the validity of the Native American views. Biography Ricker was born in Maine in 1843. He later moved to Knoxville, Illinois, and was 17 years old when the American Civil War began. Ricker had been working as a journalist for a number of years already, reporting for the ''Knox County Observer'' and ''Galesburg Free Press.'' She served as a Massachusetts State special commissioner, U.S. pension attorney, and representative of the ''Federation Bulletin''.
