Sclerolepis
''Sclerolepis'' is an aquatic plant native to the eastern United States. It has only one known species, ''Sclerolepis uniflora'', the pink bogbutton. It lives in ponds and other wet areas. When water is abundant, the plant lives underwater, with long stems and flaccid, elongated leaves, and does not flower. When the water level drops, it assumes a form more familiar in terrestrial plants, with an erect stem, and flowers in summer to fall. The flowers are pink. ''Shinnersia rivularis'', known as the Rio Grande bugheal or Mexican oak leaf plant, is an aquatic plant native to Texas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León. It is classified in tribe Eupatorieae within family Asteraceae. It is thought to be related to two other aquatic genera in this tribe, ''Sclerolepis'' and '' Trichocoronis''. The roots live in the muck at the bottom of shallow slow-moving water (for example, along a stream), and the stem extends above the water slightly (less than 10 centimetres). Aquatic plants are plants that have adapted to living in aquatic environments ( saltwater or freshwater). They are also referred to as hydrophytes or macrophytes to distinguish them from algae and other microphytes. A macrophyte is a plant that grows in or near water and is either emergent, submergent, or floating.
