Ashkenazi Jews ( ; also known as Ashkenazic Jews or Ashkenazim) form a distinct subgroup of the Jewish diaspora, that emerged in the Holy Roman Empire around the end of the first millennium CE. They traditionally speak Yiddish, a language that originated in the 9th century, and largely migrated towards northern and eastern Europe during the late Middle Ages due to persecution. Georg Schenk von Limpurg (1470–1522) was the Prince-Bishop of Bamberg from 1505 to 1522. Biography Georg Schenk von Limpurg was born in Obersontheim in 1470. He was elected Prince-Bishop of Bamberg on 13 February 1505, with Pope Julius II confirming his appointment on 18 April 1505. He was consecrated as a bishop by Kaspar Preiel, auxiliary bishop of Bamberg, on 20 October 1505. In 1507, he appointed Johann of Schwarzenberg to reform the law of Bamberg; Johann of Schwarzenberg drafted the ''Halsgerichtsordnung'' (Procedure for the judgment of capital crimes) of Bamberg (also known as the ''Bambergensis''), which would later form the basis of the ''Constitutio Criminalis Carolina'' (1530–32). Juliane Schenk (born 26 November 1982) is a German badminton player. In March 2014 she retired from international play. Career In 2001, she won the European Junior Championships in women's singles. 2003 saw her win the women's doubles with Nicole Grether in two tournaments, the Irish International and the Bitburger Open. Schenk played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics, losing in women's singles to Tracey Hallam of Great Britain in the round of 32. Josephus Schenk (born 19 August 1980, in Zutphen) is a former Dutch professional darts player. Career Schenk began playing in the Professional Darts Corporation made his PDC World Darts Championship debut in 2005 where he defeated American Darin Young in the first round and Alan Caves in the second round before defeating Peter Manley in the round three stage. His run was ended though in the Last 16 stage by Andy Hamilton. In the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship, Schenk was beaten in the first round by Dennis Priestley. This was followed by an appearance in the 2007 UK Open but was beaten early in the competition by Geoff Harkup. Johann Baptist Schenk
Johann Baptist Schenk (30 November 1753 – 29 December 1836) was an Austrian composer and teacher. Schenk was born in Wiener Neustadt. While still a boy, he composed songs, dances and symphonies, and became a proficient violinist and keyboard and wind instrument player. In 1773 he went to Vienna to study with Georg Christoph Wagenseil. Beginning in 1777 he was composing religious works for Saint Stephen's Cathedral. In the 1780s he became a prolific composer of incidental music for plays and singspiele. Mozart was a good friend of Schenk and Beethoven was among his students in 1793–1794. Schenk died in Vienna aged 83. His best-known singspiel is ' which premiered in 1796. His other compositions include numerous cantatas, ten symphonies, several concertos (including a well-known one for harp), and five string quartets. Johannes Schenck (or Johan Schenk, 3 June 1660–after 1712) was a Dutch musician and composer. Schenck was born in Amsterdam and baptized in a Catholic hidden church. He became a renowned virtuoso viola da gamba player. His compositions included music for a Dutch Singspiel, '' Bacchus, Ceres en Venus'', which can claim to be the first opera in Dutch, and from which songs were published in 1687, as well as works for the viola da gamba. Jakab Vönöczky Schenk (June 2, 1876 – February 22, 1945) was a Hungarian ornithologist who helped establish a systematic bird ringing project in the region from 1908. He translated Hungarian articles into German and edited the journal ''Aquila'' from 1905. Life and work Schenk was born in Vrbas, Serbia, Óverbász where his father was a master mason. Isobel May "Mysie" Schenk, BEM (''née'' Johnston; 10 January 1898 – 6 October 1980) was a Christian missionary who worked for many years alongside her husband, Rev. Rodolphe Samuel Schenk (1888–1969), at the Mount Margaret Mission in Western Australia. Rev. Schenk established the mission in 1921, under the auspices of the ''Aboriginal Inland Mission'' (later the ''United Aborigines Mission'' (UAM)). She was born in Prahran, Victoria in 1898 to William Johnston and Mary Marcella McKay Johnston. She was a typist when she met Rodolphe Schenk in Melbourne, where they married.
