Satan's Slaves
''Satan's Slaves'' () is a 2017 Indonesian supernatural horror film written and directed by Joko Anwar. It is a loose remake-prequel to the 1980 film of the same name directed by Sisworo Gautama Putra based on a story by Subagio S. The plot follows a family who are haunted by the death of their mother, who dies after being bedridden for three years from a strange and debilitating illness. ''Satan's Slaves'' was the highest-grossing Indonesian film of 2017 with 4.2 million admissions. It was released in 42 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Germany, and the United States. A sequel, '' Satan's Slaves 2: Communion'', was released in August 2022. Joko Anwar (born 3 January 1976) is an Indonesian film director, Film producer, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, he worked as a journalist and Film criticism, film critic. ( ; from ) is a ghost that looks like a person wrapped in a funeral cloth. In Islamic funeral, a shroud called a "" (in Indonesian and Malay) is used to wrap the body of the dead person. The dead body is covered in white fabric tied over the head, under the feet, and on the neck, and the shroud is firmly tied at multiple junctures to maintain its position during the journey to the grave site.
