Saratoga Dew Stakes
The Saratoga Dew Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually at the end of August at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Restricted to New York bred fillies and Mares, age three or older, it is contested on dirt over a distance of one and one eight miles (9 furlongs). Inaugurated in 2004, the race is named for the New York–bred filly Saratoga Dew, a multiple Grade 1 winner on NYRA tracks who was voted the 1992 Eclipse Award as the American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. The race was later renamed the Johnstone Mile. Saratoga Race Course
Saratoga Race Course is a Thoroughbred horse racing track located on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs, New York, Saratoga Springs, New York (state), New York, United States. Opened in 1863, it is often considered to be the oldest major sporting venue of any kind in the U.S. It is the fourth oldest racetrack after Pleasanton Fairgrounds Racetrack (1858), Freehold Raceway (1854) and Fair Grounds Race Course (1852). The racetrack is operated by the New York Racing Association. The Saratoga meet originally lasted only four days. The meet has been lengthened gradually since that time. From 1962 to 1990, the meet lasted four weeks and began in late July or early August. In 2010, the meet expanded to 40 racing days, with races held five days per week. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase (horse racing), steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100–120 lb. (45–55 kg), and physically fit. They are typically self-employed, and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer, whose colors they wear while competing in a race. They also receive a percentage of the horse's winnings. Rajiv Maragh (born July 9, 1985) is a Jamaican jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. An Indo-Jamaican, he is the son of a jockey who rode in Jamaica before relocating to Florida where he began a career as a horse trainer. Rajiv Maragh rode his first winner at Tampa Bay Downs on February 1, 2003. He got his big break in 2008 when he was 14th in the national earnings list. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 – February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. Javier Castellano (born October 23, 1977) is a Venezuelan jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Castellano won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey four times in a row from 2013 to 2016. In 2023 he won two legs of the American Triple Crown–the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes–aboard different horses. Saez rode Maximum Security to finish first in the 2019 Kentucky Derby but was subsequently disqualified due to interference.
