Saphan Sung District
Saphan Sung (, ) is one of the Districts of Bangkok, 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. Located on the eastern part of the capital, it is bounded by other Bangkok districts (from north clockwise): Khan Na Yao, Min Buri, Lat Krabang, Prawet, Suan Luang, Bang Kapi, and Bueng Kum. Most part of Saphan Sung district are low density residential area. History Saphan Sung was separated from Bueng Kum on 14 October 1997 announcement, effective 21 November 1997, together with Khan Na Yao. Saphan Sung means ''tall bridge'' referring to the shape of bridge built over khlongs (Thai canals) back when boats were a main mode of transportation. Prawet
Prawet (, ) is one of the Districts of Bangkok, 50 districts of Bangkok, Thailand. It is in the southeast. Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise) Bang Phli district, Bang Phli (Samut Prakan province), Bang Na district, Bang Na, Phra Khanong district, Phra Khanong, Suan Luang district, Suan Luang, Bang Kapi district, Bang Kapi, Saphan Sung district, Saphan Sung and Lat Krabang district, Lat Krabang (Bangkok). Democrat Party (Thailand)
The Democrat Party () is a conservative List of political parties in Thailand, Thai political party. The party is the oldest active political party in Thailand, it was founded in 1946 as a royalist party; it now upholds a Conservatism, liberal-conservative and Market economy, pro-market position. 2006 Thailand Local Elections
Elections for local councils in Bangkok were held in 2006. The first batch of elections took place on 30 April 2006 for all seats on the district councils of 14 districts in the north and east of the city. In the second phase of voting held on 23 July 2006, the District Council seats for the remaining 36 districts, along with all 57 seats on the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, were up for election. Local elections follow a four-year cycle, and the 2006 elections are a follow-on from the 2002 elections. Rat Phatthana (, ) is a ''khwaeng'' (subdistrict) of Saphan Sung District, in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2020, it had a total population of 42,606 people. Toponymy The name ''Rat Phatthana'' means "developed by the people". It gets its name from the road of the same name that runs through the area. Khwaeng 1044
A ''khwaeng'' (, ) is an administrative subdivision used in the fifty districts of Bangkok and a few other city municipalities in Thailand. Currently, there are 180 ''khwaeng'' in Bangkok. A ''khwaeng'' is roughly equivalent to a ''tambon'' in other provinces of Thailand, smaller than an ''amphoe'' (district). Khlong
A ''khlong'' (, ), alternatively spelt as ''klong'' () commonly refers to a canal in Thailand. These canals are spawned by the rivers Chao Phraya, Tha Chin, and Mae Klong, along with their tributaries particularly in the low-lying areas of central Thailand. The Thai word ''khlong'' is not limited to artificial canals. Many smaller rivers are referred to as "''khlong''" followed by the name of the stream. Khlongs in Bangkok there are 1,682 canals in Bangkok, totalling 2,604 kilometres in length. Nine canals are primary flood drainage conduits. In years past, the Thai capital was crisscrossed by khlongs, and so gained the nickname "Venice of the East". Khlongs were used for transportation, for floating markets, but also for sewage disposal. Bueng Kum
Bueng Kum (, ) is one of the List of districts of Bangkok, 50 districts (''Khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. From north clockwise, it is bounded by Bang Khen district, Bang Khen, Khan Na Yao district, Khan Na Yao, Saphan Sung district, Saphan Sung, Bang Kapi district, Bang Kapi, and Lat Phrao district, Lat Phrao. History Bueng Kum was separated from Bang Kapi on 4 September 1989. It consisted of three sub-districts: Khlong Kum, Khan Na Yao, and Saphan Sung. On 14 October 1997, Khan Na Yao and Saphan Sung were elevated to districts, leaving Bueng Kum with a sole sub-district, Khlong Kum. Bueng Kum was named so because of a lake ("bueng" means 'lake') used as water reservoir for flood prevention. There are also plants called "kum" (''Crataeva'' sp.) around the lake. Bang Kapi
Bang Kapi (, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. It is bounded by other Bangkok districts (from north clockwise): Bueng Kum, Saphan Sung, Prawet, Suan Luang, Huai Khwang, Wang Thonglang, and Lat Phrao. Name The name Bang Kapi consists of two parts. ''Bang'' is a common prefix for place names in Thailand and roughly means a "hamlet by the waterfront". There are multiple theories as to the origin of ''kapi''. The word ''kapi'' itself exists in Thai and means "shrimp paste", which is one possible origin. Another possibility is that it comes from ''kabi'' (กบิ/กบี่), a poetic word meaning "monkey", as the area used to be heavily forested and was home to many monkeys. Suan Luang
Suan Luang (, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. It is bounded by other Bangkok districts (from north clockwise): Bang Kapi, Saphan Sung, Prawet, Phra Khanong, and Watthana. History Suan Luang was a sub-district of Phra Khanong District. When Phra Khanong district was split into smaller districts on 9 November 1989, Suan Luang became part of the new Prawet District. On 14 January 1994 (following its announcement on 8 October 1993) Suan Luang was elevated to a district, merging the area once belonging to Suan Luang Sub-district with additional land from Prawet and Khlong Toei. Suan Luang Sub-district remained the only sub-district until 2017, when the two new sub-districts of On Nut and Phatthanakan were created.
