Bueng Kum
Bueng Kum ( th, บึงกุ่ม, ) is one of the 50 districts (''Khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. From north clockwise, it is bounded by Bang Khen, Khan Na Yao, Saphan Sung, Bang Kapi, and Lat Phrao. History Bueng Kum was separated from Bang Kapi on 4 September 1989. It consisted of three sub-districts: Khlong Kum, Khan Na Yao, and Saphan Sung. On 14 October 1997, Khan Na Yao and Saphan Sung were elevated to districts, leaving Bueng Kum with a sole sub-district, Khlong Kum. Bueng Kum was named so because of a lake ("bueng" means 'lake') used as water reservoir for flood prevention. There are also plants called "kum" ('' Crataeva'' sp.) around the lake. The lake is part of Seri Thai Park. Administration The district is divided into three sub-districts (''khwaeng''). Saphan Sung District
Saphan Sung ( th, สะพานสูง, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. Located on the eastern part of the capital, it is bounded by other Bangkok districts (from north clockwise): Khan Na Yao, Min Buri, Lat Krabang, Prawet, Suan Luang, Bang Kapi, and Bueng Kum. Most part of Saphan Sung district are low density residential area. Seri Thai
The Free Thai Movement ( th, เสรีไทย; ) was a Thai underground resistance movement against Imperial Japan during World War II. Seri Thai were an important source of military intelligence for the Allies in the region. Background In the aftermath of the Japanese invasion of Thailand on 7–8 December 1941, the regime of Plaek Phibunsongkhram (Phibun) declared war on the United Kingdom and the United States on 25 January 1942. Seni Pramoj, the Thai ambassador in Washington, refused to deliver the declaration to the United States government. Accordingly, the United States refrained from declaring war on Thailand. Seni, a conservative aristocrat whose anti-Japanese credentials were well established, organized the Free Thai Movement with American assistance, recruiting Thai students in the United States to work with the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Democrat Party (Thailand)
The Democrat Party ( th, พรรคประชาธิปัตย์; ) is a List of political parties in Thailand, Thai political party. The oldest party in Thailand, it was founded as a royalist party, and now upholds a conservatism, conservative and pro-Market economy, market position. The Democrat Party made its best showings in parliament in 1948, 1976, and 1996. It has never won an outright parliamentary majority. 2006 Thailand Local Elections
Elections for local councils in Bangkok were held in 2006. The first batch of elections took place on 30 April 2006 for all seats on the Districts of Bangkok, district councils of 14 districts in the north and east of the city. In the second phase of voting held on 23 July 2006, the District Council seats for the remaining 36 districts, along with all 57 seats on the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, were up for election. Khwaeng
A ''khwaeng'' (, ) is an administrative subdivision used in the fifty districts of Bangkok and a few other city municipalities in Thailand. Currently, there are 180 ''khwaeng'' in Bangkok. A ''khwaeng'' is roughly equivalent to a ''tambon'' in other provinces of Thailand, smaller than an ''amphoe'' (district). Bang Kapi District
Bang Kapi ( th, บางกะปิ, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. It is bounded by other Bangkok districts (from north clockwise): Bueng Kum, Saphan Sung, Prawet, Suan Luang, Huai Khwang, Wang Thonglang, and Lat Phrao. Name The name Bang Kapi consists of two parts. ''Bang'' is a common prefix for place names in Thailand and roughly means a "hamlet by the waterfront". There are multiple theories as to the origin of ''kapi''. The word ''kapi'' itself exists in Thai and means "shrimp paste", which is one possible origin. Another possibility is that it comes from ''kabi'' (กบิ/กบี่), a poetic word meaning "monkey", as the area used to be heavily forested and was home to many monkeys.
